Visit Mara Leisure Camp

Mara Leisure Camp is set in Kenya’s prime wildlife area – the Masai Mara. It is located near the Talek Gate on the northern boundary of the Masai Mara Game Reserve. The camp gives a unique safari adventure, including daily safari drives with experienced local Masai guides as well as educational outings and visits to several community development projects within the area.

The Masai Mara offers some of the best game-viewing opportunities in the world. From July to August it is ideal for witnessing the ‘Great Migration’ – where two million wildebeest, zebras and other herbivores pass through the Masai Mara / Serengeti ecosystem in Kenya and Tanzania. This is a perilous migration for the animals, where they encounter many river crossings, and have to run the gauntlet of crocodiles in waiting.

Guests at Mara Leisure Camp enjoy daily game drives in the Masai Mara National Reserve, safari walks, cultural outings and atmospheric evenings around the camp fire.

Accommodation

Mara Leisure Camp offers a choice of accommodation. There are tents suitable for families, as well as individuals. There are even cottages for those who don’t want canvas walls.

The 13 Nyati tents are perfectly situated along the banks of the Talek river. They feature en suite shower room, twin wash basins, wc, twin beds, desk, coffee table, two lounger chairs and luggage racks.

The 9 Jumbo Tents include everything found in the Nyati tents but they have double beds and are particularly spacious.

Jumbo Tents 3 & 4 are inter-connecting and are suitable for families. They command the best view of the National Reserve and have a living room, minibar and spacious outdoor area suitable for a private function or bonfire.

The 3 Jamii Cottages are solid buildings for those not wishing to sleep under the canvas.  All the cottages inter-connect between a double room and a twin room and are most suited for families. They are all well furnished with a safari style theme and have everything found in the tents plus a larger bathroom, separate bath tub, separate shower and mosquito nets surrounding the beds.

Facilities

The restaurant offers excellent cuisine from either the buffet or a set menu (depending on the number of guests). The chef is always on hand to cater for any dietary requirements. A collection of wines is available from the cellar.

Guests can relax by the bar with a view of the 8th wonder of the world or collect around the bonfire to exchange stories of the day’s events and simply enjoy gazing at the stars.

In between game viewing activities guests can relax and cool off from the heat of the day in the swimming pool – the only one at a camp in the area.

Other facilities include a Business Center, Conference Facilities and a Gift Shop.

Activities

Safari Drive:  The floor of the Rift Valley teems with wildlife making it one of the treasures of the continent. Game drives are available both morning and evening with knowledgeable driver guides. Wildlife closest to the Camp includes elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, waterbuck, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and warthog. On a lucky day one is likely to see a cheetah, the fastest animal in Africa.

Walking Safaris:  For that intimate encounter, take an exciting guided walking safari. The local Maasai guides will educate you about their land and you have the chance to get close to flora and fauna that is otherwise missed when exploring by vehicle.

Cultural Visits:  This area is home to the Maasai people – a tribe that hasn’t had its colorful culture changed much over the centuries. The camp can organize a visit to a local Maasai Manyatta (village) where guests can learn more of the Maasai culture and purchase hand made local crafts, in turn supporting their existence and lifestyle within the park.

Bush Dinners / Breakfasts, Sundowners and Balloon Safaris can also be arranged.
