Visit Porini Lion Camp
Escape from the tourist trail and opt for a more authentic safari holiday when choosing your Maasai Mara Accommodation. The award-winning, eco-friendly Porini Lion Camp offers a unique opportunity to take guided walks with Maasai Warriors and experience day and night safari game drives within the Olare Motorogi Conservancy – a pristine and exclusive 33000-acre wilderness set aside for wildlife conservation and low-impact tourism.
Porini Lion Camp is located in unique and stunning setting on the banks of the seasonal Ntiakatiak River within the Olare Motorogi Conservancy.
This large area borders the Maasai Mara National Reserve and is home to an abundance of animals including the Mara’s renowned Big Cats. There is unsurpassed game-viewing within the conservancy due to its unspoiled natural state and the Porini Lion Camp – with just nine tents and two family units – ensures guests have a genuine “away from it all” experience deep in the African bush.
The family units at Porini Lion Camp are made of high quality canvas, spacious, measuring 144 square metres. Each unit consists of two rooms with a lounge in between. Each of the two rooms has a king size bed and a single bed, The high-quality, spacious tents are tastefully furnished and have solar-powered lighting, ensuite facilities (with hot shower and flush toilet) and private verandas. The units are ideal for families or group of friends traveling together and are at the same price per person as our other tents. The camp welcomes children aged 8 years and over (see Prices Information for more details).
Limited laundry is available at no charge. Laundry is done by hand and dried outdoors, therefore turnaround time is dependent on the weather. Out of respect to local culture and customs, we do not wash underwear. Washing powder is provided in all of our guest rooms should guests wish to wash their own.
If you are looking for an African safari package, the Porini Lion Camp accommodation is fully inclusive of all meals, drinks (beer, wine, sodas, vodka, gin & tonics and mineral water) as well as all activities (including day and night game drives, escorted walks and sundowners). Game safari drives (shared) are in specially-designed off-road (4×4) safari vehicles with expert / qualified safari guides to ensure the best possible game-viewing. Guests particularly enjoy the safari drives within the Conservancy where they experience the African wilderness without being surrounded by other tourist vehicles.
Porini Lion Camp is an ideal base from which to witness the Great Wildebeest Migration, and there is also the opportunity to enjoy a Hot Air Balloon Safari.
For guests staying at Porini Lion Camp, we can arrange to book return flights from Nairobi to the nearby Olare Motorogi airstrip using the daily scheduled services of Safarilink, one of Kenya’s leading safari airlines, at the applicable air fares.

Our Porini Camps in the Mara are adjacent to the reserve in exceptionally rich wildlife areas where tourism density is controlled and deliberately kept very low (1 guest tent to 700 acres) and as such there is no need to visit the Mara National Reserve to view lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, buffalo, giraffe, hippo etc. Stays in our camps in the conservancies also include extra activities like night game drives, guided bush walks, bush meals and sundowners. However, should guests wish to include a visit to the reserve this can be pre-booked with the additional park entry charge applicable (currently $100 per person for 2024 low season & $200 per person for 2024 high season, subject to change). As the park entry tickets for the reserve must be booked and paid for in advance, this option needs to be confirmed at time of booking.

What Porini Lion Camp Guests' Say
In our commitment to excellence, we not only strive to exceed our clients’ expectations but also value their feedback. We are proud to present our latest clients’ feedback from Porini Lion Camp posted on Trip Advisor.

Want to see LIONS? Don't miss Porini Lion Camp.
Wow; Porini Lion Camp definitely lives up to its name! Located in the Olare Motorogi conservancy, the wildlife is far better than in the NP, with far, far less safari vehicles. Lion was the final stop of my Kenya safari, and I am so glad Kristy (world's best safari expert at Gamewatchers!) recommended a 3 night stay here. If you plan on visiting Maasai Mara, be sure to include Porini Lion on your itinerary.
Doug - Sept 2024
Amazing camp
Spent a weekend at the camp and can't say enough good things about their operation. Fantastic people, very friendly and helpful. The game drives were amazing, very skilled and knowledgeable people. The camp was small enough to keep it comfortable, the accommodations were excellent and their chef was great. I will return again.
Leigh M - Nov 2024
Great lion views
I love cats. And seeing them up close and how similar they are to house cats was remarkable. One cub jumped on his mother and then plopped down right under her chin. The lions weren't at all bothered by our vehicle. And there weren't other vehicles around. Everything was so well planned. We in a vehicle by ourselves, so easy to see the animals. Food was excellent. Staff very helpful.

Seen it all !!
What a way to do safari!! The camp is ECO friendly and staying on the conservancy means so much more freedom to see the wildlife up close. The early wake up calls for the game drive are worth it especially when you see a lioness at the watering hole outside the camp or 2 cheetahs sauntering down the road… special thanks to Moses our guide and Melita who were both just extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife and where to find it.
