Choose a local safari expert and start planning.

Don’t miss out on one when you can have both. Kenya and Tanzania are too remarkable to choose between.

Both countries offer unforgettable experiences and together, they complete the story of East Africa. Here’s why both are them can’t be missed:

Kenya: The Maasai Mara area is excellent for Big Cats and game viewing particularly during the Great Migration season. While the Amboseli ecosystem is home to thousands of big tusker elephants and more.

We can accommodate you in safari lodges and hotels all over Kenya, but our favourite offering are our exclusive Porini safari camps

These camps located on private conservancies deep in the wilderness, where only a select few people and vehicles are allowed. The rules on these conservancies are not as rigid as they are in Kenya’s national parks and reserves, meaning you are free to drive off-road, and observe wildlife at any time of day or night. Read more about them here

Tanzania: Is known for its vast, open landscapes and sense of scale. The Serengeti and other national parks offer expansive, unfenced wilderness areas where wildlife moves freely across great distances. The experience here is more traditional, centred around game drives in some of Africa’s most iconic settings.

A combined Kenya and Tanzania safari is the best way to pair Kenya’s flexible, conservancy-led safaris with Tanzania’s vast, remote landscapes for the definitive East African experience.

Witness the Great Migration Across Kenya and Tanzania

The Great Migration is a year-round movement of millions of wildebeest and zebra across the Serengeti–Maasai Mara ecosystem.

Its location changes throughout the year, making a combined Kenya and Tanzania safari ideal for experiencing different stages.

With careful planning, your itinerary can be aligned to maximise wildlife viewing based on when and where you travel.

Migration overview:

January – March: Southern Serengeti, Tanzania (calving season).

June – July: Western & Northern Serengeti, Tanzania.

August – October: Maasai Mara, Kenya (river crossings)

FAQs - Kenya & Tanzania Safaris

Travelling across these two enormous countries sounds daunting. How do you make it feel seamless?
From the second you land in either country, we’ll handle all the travel documentation and transportation. Including all of your internal flights, national park entrance fees, border crossing documentation — everything. You won’t have to worry about a thing.
Is crossing between Kenya and Tanzania complicated?
Not with us. We’ll handle all logistics, including flights or road transfers, park connections, and timing, ensuring a smooth and stress-free transition between countries.
Can I see the Great Migration on a Kenya and Tanzania safari?

Yes, but timing and location are key. The migration moves between Tanzania’s Serengeti and Kenya’s Maasai Mara throughout the year.

A well-planned itinerary increases your chances of witnessing river crossings or large herds. Read more about our Great Migration safaris here.witnessing river crossings or large herds.

Are Kenya and Tanzania safaris suitable for families or first-time visitors?

Yes. In fact they’re excellent for, and can be tailored for families, couples, or first-time visitors. We can recommend the appropriate camps, pacing, and activities to ensure a comfortable and rewarding experience for all ages.

Do I need to be physically fit for a safari?
Most of our safaris are accessible for all levels of fitness. Game drives and walking safaris can be adjusted to your fitness level. Just let us know if you have any concerns or need accommodations for mobility.
What is the best time to visit Kenya and Tanzania together?

Between June and October, during the dry season when wildlife viewing is at its peak. This period also coincides with the Great Migration in Kenya’s Maasai Mara.

However, the migration is present in Tanzania’s Serengeti at different times of year, from the southern plains (calving season) between January and March, to the western and northern Serengeti from June onwards. With careful planning, it’s possible to experience different stages of the migration across both countries.

Both Kenya and Tanzania also offer rewarding safari experiences year-round depending on your interests.

How many days do you need for a Kenya and Tanzania safari?

A well-paced itinerary typically requires 8 to 11 days to explore key regions in both countries.

This allows time to experience different ecosystems, enjoy game drives, and avoid rushed travel between locations.

Do I need separate visas for Kenya and Tanzania?
Yes, most travellers require separate visas for each country. In some cases, an East Africa Tourist Visa may be suitable, depending on your nationality and travel route. It’s best to check current requirements before booking.
Can I combine a safari with a beach holiday?

Of course! Speak to a specialist or visit our safaris and beach page for more information.
