Visit Elephant Pepper

Elephant Pepper is a luxury safari camp situated in the 3,600 square kilometer Koiyaki reserve in the northern section of the Maasai Mara eco-system. It is surrounded by pristine wilderness and offers a superb game-viewing experience.

Styled in the manner of the original bush camps, the emphasis is on being eco-friendly and the camp is committed to a way of life that does not harm the environment.

Every 9 months the camp is dismantled and packed away to allowing the grass and bushes to regenerate for 3 for months leaving, no trace of the camps presence. It is designed and constructed in such a manner that, once removed, it should not leave any intrusive traces on the terrain. This reduces to a minimum the environmental impact of human activities and keeps the territory wild.

Accommodation

There are just 8 canvas luxury safari tents, plus a tented honeymoon suite all overlooking the savannah plains.

Safari Tents each consist of a bedroom, separate dressing room / en suite shower room (with shower and flush wc) and private veranda with hammock. Each tent can accommodate one extra bed suitable for children aged up to 16 years.

The Honeymoon Tent has one spacious main bedroom, an en-suite shower room (with double wash basins, shower and flush wc), large veranda with seating and dining area and private camp-fire area. This tent can comfortably fit two extra beds, and is therefore also suitable for families.

Please Note: some tents feature piped hot / cold water to the basin and shower. Other tents have piped hot / cold water to the basin then a traditional safari shower. Please ask us to request your preference at the time of booking.

Animals are able to roam freely through the camp, making the night time guard escort especially reassuring. Sounds of the night and the fresh scent of the earth and grass fill the air all around you. Guests are assigned a personal guide for the duration of their stay providing a personal service.

Meal times are generally dinner party style with guests sharing their adventures and experiences although more private dining can be accommodated. Also available are bush breakfasts and bush sundowners, which invariably provide you with spectacular backdrops to your drinks and meals. Barbecues by the campfire, dinner in the mess tent, or a bush breakfast on the open plains all make meal times a memorable event.

Activities

The Camp offers the spectacular views. Being situated at the edge of the National Reserve ensures that from the camp you have a flexible range of game viewing plans, including night game drives in their open-sided vehicles and guided bush walks. This enables you to explore the rich, easily ignored and less obvious wildlife of the Mara ecosystem.

The greatest migration spectacle on the planet takes place here. Every year, driven by a force man cannot comprehend, up to two million wildebeest, interspersed by herds of zebra, cross the Mara River from Tanzania to eat the lush grass resulting from the seasonal “long rains” in Kenya. It is this display which lures people and predators Lion, Leopard and cheetah among others, to this place, but there is more to the Mara than the annual spectacle, no wonder Mara is the all time people favourite for viewing game. All the Big Five including Elephant and Rhino can be seen here.

Helping the Community

Part of revenue from the camp goes back to the local community to aid local projects while 80 percent of camp staff is from the local community. From the camp you can arrange cultural visit to a local Maasai village.
