Jambo, I’m Tommy Mees, most people call me Tom.
My connection with Africa began through years of travelling across the continent.
I later spent more than twelve years managing safari camps and lodges while supporting conservation initiatives including beekeeping and tree-planting projects.
Having travelled extensively throughout Eastern and Southern Africa, I developed a deep appreciation for authentic wilderness experiences and the conservation-focused approach of the Porini Camps.
I am originally from Belgium and now based in Spain, though my heart has always remained in Africa.
Alongside my safari background, I am also a professional photographer and enjoy helping travellers experience and capture the extraordinary wildlife, landscapes and cultures that make Africa so special.

Is it safe to visit these countries for a safari, and can you guarantee my family’s safety?
Yes. We prioritise your safety by carefully selecting safari destinations in regions with stable conditions and strong security measures.
Local guides and staff are trained to monitor and adapt to any changes in the environment.
Additionally, we stay informed through government and local sources to avoid any areas affected by conflict or instability for a safe, enjoyable journey.
I’m not sure of all the necessary precautions to take before heading out on an African safari. Can you help me with this?
Yes. Our specialists will tell you everything you need to know and do before committing to a family safari in Africa with us. Including advice on the vaccinations, travel insurance, visas and more. Once you’re on the ground, we’ll take care of everything domestic, so you won’t have to worry about a thing.

Is there Wi-Fi or phone signal if we need to stay connected?
There is phone signal in most camps and lodges in Africa and limited Wi-Fi.
And while many guests will enjoy the chance to disconnect, there is still enough connectivity to stay in touch if needed.
Is it safe to stay in an unfenced tented camp with children?
Yes. Your safety is our top priority. The camps are unfenced but carefully managed by experienced Maasai staff who monitor the camp day and night.
Our guides accompany guests to and from their tents after dark, providing maximum reassurance and safety for your children and elderly relatives.
What kind of safari experiences can we expect on a Porini Family Safari?
Guests can enjoy game drives, walking safaris, scenic picnics, visit to Maasai Village, and wildlife encounters in unspoiled wilderness.
How is the food, and do you cater for picky eaters or special diets?
Most camps & lodges across Africa are fully able to cater for family members who are vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free.
They can also provide for other dietary needs with advance notice including simple meals for toddlers, young children or specific dietary plans for elderly relatives.
What wildlife will we see? Can we see the Big Five?
This depends on the country and what you want to see.
Many destinations offer excellent wildlife viewing year-round, with dry seasons often preferred for game viewing and green seasons offering fewer crowds and lush landscapes.

Our family safari packages in Africa are all-inclusive. At a glance, here are some of the key things we can offer:

- Park & Conservancy fees (no surprise costs).
- Internal flights and airstrip transfers (seamless transfer from plane to camp).
We also arrange for a representative to meet you on arrival into your chosen African destination and arrange all the internal flights and hotel nights on your behalf, reducing your travel planning stress.
All you need to do is book your international flights and we take care of the rest!
How long is a typical family safari, and is it easy to add a beach stay?
We recommend a safari duration of 7 to 10 nights to give your family enough time to settle in, experience two or three national parks or conservancies without rushing, and minimise travel fatigue for both children and elderly relatives.
Yes, it is very easy to add a beach resort stay afterwards. This is a perfect, relaxing transition after the early mornings and excitement of the bush, allowing everyone to decompress and enjoy a few days of effortless relaxation before returning home.
We can arrange internal flights and hotel nights on your behalf.
