Experience Porini Giraffe Camp, The Definitive Giraffe Safari In Africa.

Join us at Mara Ripoi Conservancy, a 22,000-acre exclusive camp in the Maasai Mara, famed for its large concentrations of Maasai giraffe, away from the crowds and deep in the vast African wilderness.

Zero crowds. No mass tourism.

Only one tent is allowed per 700 acres on our conservancies. And only one tourist vehicle per 1,400 acres.

This extremely low density puts less pressure on the animals, resulting in more natural behaviour and longer, uninterrupted sightings.

Ethical. Low-impact. Wildlife first.

Every guest we receive at our Porini camps helps to directly fund conservation efforts and the local indigenous economy.

A safari experience like no other.

Unlike natural parks, conservancy land allows for off‑road driving and has no time limits. Increasing your chances of a sighting and for long, uninterrupted moments with these animals.

Awesome Experience
jules64503 - July 2026
Saw an elephant and giraffe from the plane as we were landing, wow! But no, that was far from the wow wow wow experience that was in store. Hour ish drive to our campsite, which was also a sort of mini game drive and introduction. The campsite was spotless, in a conservancy type of way, you can see that a lot of work has been put into keeping the camp tidy, particularly the communal areas. However as it was only my friend and I, we were the communal people lol. Although you can hear animals (and the guard) moving around at night, a lion roaring nearby on our first night and giraffe/zebra watching us eat our lunch. The food during our stay was lovely, thank you Julius (and also for the recipe!). All the camp 'staff' were great, making a relaxed atmosphere and nothing was too much trouble. The tent was clean and perfect for our stay, Dennis looked after us with early morning coffee and biscuits before we set out. Our driver and guide Justus took us out on all our game drives (along with a spotter), he was so knowledgable, amazing spoken English and with a sense of humour which we loved. I never believed we would see so many different types of animals including elephants, giraffe, lions (including 3-4 week old cubs ..... awe), cape buffalo, eagles, owls, buzzards, hyenas, zebra, yland, gazelle, wildebeest, pumba's ......... and so much more. It truly was an exceptional holiday, made all the better by the camp Masai. I'm not putting any photo's of the animals (except the wildebeest one, funny animals lol), don't want to spoil the surprise. But I have have some pretty special photo's and memories 🙂
Great camp

This was a wonderful camp. It's location was spectacular and the wildlife viewing incredible. The chef not only provided great meals but fabulous desserts. The guides were very knowledgeable and because it is a conservation area there were few few other vehicles there,
Is there an option to give 6 stars?

We spent 5 nights at Porini Giraffe Camp and had a truly incredible experience. I cannot fault it. Having wanted to do a safari in Kenya for a very long time, this exceeded all expectations. We saw a huge amount of animals, including 27 different mammals and a wide variety of birds. We were fortunate to see lions and elephants every day. The guides, Justice and Edward, were extremely knowledgeable and we learned a lot from them about the flora, fauna and the Masai culture. The whole team in the camp provided excellent service, they were attentive and hospitable and the food was fantastic. It is in a beautiful setting, with animals wandering through from time to time. I highly recommend it and would love to go back one day. Thank you!

The safari with Porini Giraffe Camp was absolutely wonderful! Our guides were amazing, as were all the camp staff. The facilities were great and so was the food. We had a truly magical experience and I have already recommended Gamewatchers to friends!

Choose a local safari expert and start planning.

If you’re looking for a truly authentic giraffe safari that protects the animals you love, you’ll find it at Porini Giraffe Camp.

A safari is a significant investment of time, money and expectation. And in our view, the finest wildlife experiences should never feel like tourist attractions.

Yet with so many safari options available, all promising something similar, it’s often difficult to see what truly sets one apart from another. And when you’re investing in a journey like this, that uncertainty matters.

You may have seen or heard about it before: vehicles crowding around wildlife, multiple groups competing for the same sighting, moments that feel rushed, noisy, and far from what you imagined. Encounters that fall short or, worse, are disturbing to the animals.

That’s not the experience you’re looking for. In fact, it’s the antithesis of what Porini Giraffe Camp is about.

Our Porini Giraffe Camp gives you the greatest opportunity to experience giraffes as they should be seen in the wild.

With just three small camps in the heart of 22,000 acres at Mara Ripoi Conservancy, the abundance of animal life and the deep wilderness is almost hard to describe. The Conservancy also has lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants and a wide variety of the other wildlife species of the Mara. The sheer remoteness of the Camp and the near-absence of other tourists allows you to pretend for a moment that the continent of Africa is yours.

Guests have described our giraffe safaris in Kenya as experiences where time slows down. You’re not watching from a distance or through a crowd. You’re present, immersed, observing them just metres away, undisturbed, and at any time of day, for as long as you want.

It’s also a wonderful place to see first-hand how the conservancy model helps local communities with education initiatives, local infrastructure and community projects. Here, your tourism really matters. It’s a shared success that gives back.

All this doesn’t mean you have to choose between comfort and conservation. At our Porini Camps, you get both.

Here’s a taste of what you can experience on our giraffe safaris:

Eco Tented Camp
Gold Eco Rated Camp by Ecotourism Kenya for responsible operations and sustainable tourism practices.

Entirely solar-powered with no permanent structures, ensuring minimal environmental impact.

8 guest tents with king or twin beds, writing desk, charging points & private veranda

Constructed from eco-friendly materials that blend into the landscape.

    Wifi in lounge area

Unspoiled Wilderness
Located in the exclusive 20,000-acre Mara Ripoi Conservancy offering crowd-free wildlife viewing.

Strategically located, Mara Ripoi connects to surrounding conservancies and reserves, forming a vital wildlife corridor that supports free movement of elephants, big cats, and herbivores across the Greater Mara ecosystem.

Rich in biodiversity, with a high concentration of Maasai giraffe, wildebeest, and predators such as lions and cheetahs.

Safari Activities
Expertly guided game drives with KPSGA-certified Maasai guides with deep knowledge of the land and wildlife.

Experience day & night game drives and guided nature walks that reveal a different side of the bush.

Dine in the wild with picnic breakfasts, bush lunches, and sundowners in scenic locations.

Optional balloon safaris and cultural visits provide a broader perspective on the ecosystem and local traditions.

Community Initiatives
Established through a long-term land lease with 1,600 local Maasai landowners, directly benefiting the community.

Employment, training, and leadership opportunities provided for local Maasai staff and guides.

Guests can engage meaningfully through village visits, school outreach, and cultural exchange.

More Information

Tucked away in a secluded forest of Leleshwa (African Wild Sage) and Yellow Bark Acacia, Porini Giraffe Camp offers an intimate and authentic safari experience in the heart of the Mara Ripoi Conservancy. Spanning 22,000 acres of rolling hills, lush riverine woodlands, and open plains, this exclusive conservancy is a haven for wildlife—including big cats, elephants, giraffes, and countless other species—all roaming freely between the Mara Reserve, Siana Conservancy, and Ol Kinyei Conservancy via natural wildlife corridors.

With just eight guest tents, Porini Giraffe Camp provides a personal and eco-conscious safari experience, offering a refreshing alternative to the crowded tourist lodges. The camp’s spacious dining tent and inviting lounge, set along the tranquil Ripole River, create the perfect setting to unwind after thrilling game drives and guided walks.

Designed with minimal environmental impact, the camp operates with no permanent structures, staying true to its eco-friendly ethos and is ideal for families and travelers seeking a more exclusive and immersive adventure.

As part of a conservation initiative, the land is leased from the local Maasai community, ensuring that both wildlife and people benefit from sustainable tourism.

Mara Ripoi Conservancy is home to just three small camps, including Porini Giraffe Camp as a founding member, and remains off-limits to outside tourist vehicles. This means guests enjoy unrivaled access to thousands of acres of pristine wilderness—without the crowds.

An Unforgettable Maasai Mara Safari with Gamewatchers We had an absolutely incredible safari experience in the Maasai Mara with Gamewatchers. From beginning to end, the whole trip was beautifully organized, and the team made our time in Kenya truly unforgettable. A huge thank you to Wycliffe, Wayne, Sammy, James, Stanley, Joseph and Anthony. Everyone was warm, knowledgeable, professional and genuinely passionate about the Mara and its wildlife. The game viewing was spectacular. We saw so many cats — lions, cheetahs and leopards — and every drive seemed to bring another amazing encounter. One of the biggest highlights was witnessing the wildebeest crossing, an experience we will never forget. What really made the safari special, though, were the people. Their knowledge, patience and enthusiasm added so much to every sighting and every day. Thank you, Gamewatchers, for an extraordinary Maasai Mara adventure. We came hoping for a great safari and left with memories that will stay with us forever. Highly recommended!

Best family safari experience we’ve had From the very beginning, Gamewatchers exceeded our expectations. Rick McIntyre listened to exactly what I wanted for this trip with my children and built an itinerary that balanced adventure, wildlife, comfort, and authentic experiences. Every camp—Nairobi Tented Camp, Elewana Tortilis in Amboseli, Porini Rhino Camp, and Porini Mara Camp—was excellent in its own way. What impressed me most was the logistics. Transfers, flights, guides, luggage, arrivals, departures—everything was handled for us. I could completely let go, stop managing details, and simply enjoy Kenya with my kids. Even when plans changed unexpectedly, the team immediately found solutions and made sure we were taken care of. Every guide, driver, and staff member was warm, professional, and genuinely kind. My son said it best: “This is the best vacation we’ve ever had.” We travel a lot, so that says everything. I would absolutely recommend Gamewatchers and would travel with them again.

Second trip as a great as the first! This is the second time we have used Gamewatchers on a visit to Kenya. Both times we were very pleased. Everyone who planned our trips were patient and kind and even changed our itinerary when asked. Both time we stayed at the Porini Camps as well as other hotels that were recommended by Gamewatchers The drivers we had on excursions were professional and always flexible. We had wonderful guides and drivers at the Porini Camps who are very knowledgeable and friendly. The food at the camp is delicious and the camp managers and staff did a great job of making sure we were comfortable. If we are lucky enough to return, we will be using Gamewatchers for our travel needs. I highly recommend them!

Extremely professional company We have travelled with Gamewatchers and Porini Camps a number of times and the fact that we keep going back speaks for itself I think. Using one of their dedicated booking agents makes the whole process very easy as you are able to plan your safari and are not restricted to a set itinerary . This safari we stayed at Porini Amboseli and Porini Cheetah.

Amazing experience - Big 5 and wild dogs so much more!! Our 10 day trip with Gamewatchers was amazing! Our travel consultant, Rick, was super helpful and knowledgeable in planning our two safari camp experience (Porini Rhino and Porini Mara) followed by a few days at Diani Beach. The family tent worked out great for us. The staffs at both camps were friendly and very accommodating to dietary restrictions. We felt very special having Porini Mara camps to ourselves, with no other guests. Likewise, Porini Rhino had only one other family. What an absolute wonderful vacation! The guides (Alfred and Fred) at Porini Rhino were excellent. They were very knowledgeable about animals, flora and fauna and went above and beyond. We were very fortunate to see the wild dogs at Porini Rhino camp. We knew it was a special event to see the wild dogs when the guides pulled out their phones to take pictures! We would highly recommend GameWatchers Safaris! They took excellent care of us from our arrival flight to departure flight!

A wonderful safari in Tanzania We thoroughly enjoyed our safari at two Asanja camps in Tanzania…Asanja Moru and Asanja Grumeti. Our driver, Mubarak, was extremely knowledgeable and provided an exceptional experience. We were so fortunate to see everything except the Black Rhino. The staff at both camps looked after us very well with their great service. We particularly loved their singing and dancing. Esther is a great masseuse at Grumeti camp … I would highly recommend booking one when you are there. A safari with Gamewatchers is very well organised and runs so smoothly. Hopefully we can do another safari with them in the future.

fabulous safari company I can't say enough good things about our safari with Gamewatchers! The guides were experts on the wildlife. They knew where to find the animals and where their territories are. They spotted an owl you would never find on your own and a gazelle giving birth, not to mention cheetahs and a leopard with her cub, and lions sleeping and eating. They were very friendly and professional and accommodated all our requests, and helped us get the best photos. The staff in the camps were also excellent. They met every need and request - such as extra hot water bottles. The jeeps were open for the best viewing. While it was chilly in the early morning and evening, they had flannel lined ponchos in the jeeps. The afternoon drive usually left the camp around 4 pm, and they provided a "sundowner" stop with the drink of your choice and snacks to watch the sundown. The Cheetah camp doesn't do laundry because the water is too brackish, but in the Lion camp they hand washed whatever we gave them, apart from underthings, but there is laundry detergent in the room to do those yourself. The camps are in the conservancy and we had monkeys in the camp, zebras right in front and we had a close encounter with an elephant not far from our tent. The tents were large, and the beds and bedding very comfortable. While there isn't running hot water, you just notify them when you want a shower and they bring it in buckets. They also provide an early morning wake up call, and bring coffee, tea, or hot chocolate with a couple of cookies, at your request, to your tent. The meals were communal and delicious. They also picked us up at the airport, and brought us to the hotel in Nairobi at the end. And for an extra fee, they took us to the Giraffe Center in Nairobi, to feed the giraffes, an amazing introduction!
