Jambo, I’m Tommy Mees, most people call me Tom.
My connection with Africa began through years of travelling across the continent.
I later spent more than twelve years managing safari camps and lodges while supporting conservation initiatives including beekeeping and tree-planting projects.
Having travelled extensively throughout Eastern and Southern Africa, I developed a deep appreciation for authentic wilderness experiences and the conservation-focused approach of the Porini Camps.
I am originally from Belgium and now based in Spain, though my heart has always remained in Africa.
Alongside my safari background, I am also a professional photographer and enjoy helping travellers experience and capture the extraordinary wildlife, landscapes and cultures that make Africa so special.

Kenya is a year-round destination, but the best wildlife viewing typically occurs from January to March when it is hot and dry, and from July to October when the Great Migration enters the Maasai Mara. Rainy seasons can affect road conditions and camp operations. Safari camps may close during heavy rains.
Kenya has many excellent parks and reserves. Combining several areas such as private conservancies and national parks can give a wider range of wildlife and scenery. Conservancies often allow activities like walking safaris and night drives, providing more intimate wildlife experiences.
Kenya is ideal for Big Five safaris. You can typically see buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, eland, giraffe, gazelles, impala, and waterbuck. Big cats such as lions, leopards and cheetahs are plentiful, with elephants often seen in Amboseli and rhinoceros in Ol Pejeta Conservancy or Lake Nakuru
Accommodation ranges from boutique eco-camps and luxury lodges to classic tented lodges. Eco-camps offer authentic safari experiences with shared meals and wildlife immersion, while larger lodges provide more facilities. All offer comfortable en-suite facilities, and many have swimming pools and social areas
Kenya is generally safe for tourists. There are no travel restrictions in Kenya’s main wildlife regions (like the Maasai Mara, Amboseli, Samburu, and Tsavo). And we actively monitor security to ensure the safety of our guests.
Most safari accommodations offer some mobile phone signal and limited Wi-Fi in communal areas. While many guests enjoy disconnecting, there is usually sufficient connectivity to stay in touch if needed
Food quality on safari is generally good and international in style. Breakfasts typically include cereals, eggs and fruit, while lunches and dinners feature soups, salads, meats and vegetables. Dietary needs such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free diets can usually be accommodated with advance notice.
A typical safari day starts with an early morning game drive, followed by a relaxed mid-day rest at camp. Afternoon tea precedes a second game activity, which may be a game drive or night drive. Meals and wildlife viewing bookend the day for an immersive experience.
Tipping is at your discretion but customary for good service. Suggested rates include a tip for porters, bar and restaurant staff, driver-guides and camp staff, typically expressed in Kenya Shillings per guest per day.
