Our favourite luxury safaris in Namibia
Here are our travel experts’ top picks and some of our all-time favourite experiences in Namibia. They’ll give you an idea of what you can experience; however, we always advise speaking to our specialists before making a decision.
Many of our customers choose two or more experiences, or just one, as part of a multi-centre safari holiday spanning multiple stunning countries in Africa.
Namib-Naukluft Park
(Sossusvlei and the Namib Desert)
Best for:
– Honeymoon safaris, photography safaris, luxury fly-in safaris.
What to do:
– Sossusvlei is one of Namibia’s most iconic landscapes, with towering red dunes, white salt pans and extraordinary desert light. In fact, it’s probably what you think of first when you think about Namibia.
– Climb dunes at sunrise, visit Deadvlei and enjoy some of the clearest night skies in Africa where you can sleep under the stars.
– This region is ideal for couples, photographers and anyone wanting a dramatic desert experience.
Damaraland
Best for:
– Guided safaris, private safaris, photography safaris, active adventures.
What to do:
– Damaraland is one of the best places in Namibia to track desert-adapted elephants and, in some areas, desert rhinos with expert guides.
– The scenery is spectacular, with rocky mountains, wide open plains and some of the oldest geological features on Earth.
– This is a strong choice for travellers who want a wilder, more remote safari with exceptional guiding..
Etosha National Park
Best for:
– Family safaris, first-time safaris.
What to do:
– Etosha is Namibia’s best-known wildlife destination, famous for its salt pan, busy waterholes and strong sightings of elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras and antelope.
– It is one of the best places in the country for classic game viewing.
– We often recommend combining Etosha with a private reserve just outside the park for a more exclusive experience away from the busiest areas.
Skeleton Coast & the Hoanib Valley
Best for:
– Luxury safaris, fly-in safaris, photography safaris, adventurous honeymoons.
What to do:
– The Skeleton Coast and Hoanib region offer one of the most remote and atmospheric safari experiences in southern Africa.
– Expect dramatic coastlines, desert scenery, dry riverbeds and the chance to look for desert-adapted wildlife in a truly wild setting.
– This area is perfect for travellers who want something unusual, exclusive and visually unforgettable.
Kunene / Kaokoland
Best for:
– Cultural journeys.
What to do:
– Kunene is a remote northern region known for its striking desert scenery and Himba communities.
– This is a good place to combine wildlife, landscape and experience new cultures.
– It suits travellers who want to go beyond the classic highlights and experience a more remote side of Namibia.
Swakopmund & the Central Coast
Best for:
– Namibia family safaris, adventure holidays, beach-and-desert combinations.
What to do:
– Swakopmund adds a different side to a Namibia itinerary, with coastal scenery and adventure activities such as dune boarding, scenic flights and marine excursions.
– It works well as a change of pace between the desert and wildlife areas.
– This stop is particularly popular with families and travellers who want to mix safari with a little adventure.
Zambezi Region (Caprivi Strip)
Best for:
– Birdwatching, fishing, boat safaris, family safaris.
What to do:
– The Zambezi Region is greener and wetter than much of Namibia, giving you a completely different feel from the desert landscapes elsewhere in the country.
– It is well known for river-based activities, fishing, birdlife and good game viewing.
– This is a great addition for repeat safari-goers or anyone wanting to see another side of Namibia.
Okonjima Nature Reserve
Best for:
– Honeymoon safaris, short luxury stays, private safaris in Namibia.
What to do:
– Okonjima is well known for its connection with big cat conservation and works well as a comfortable stop between Windhoek and Etosha.
– It’s the ideal choice if you want to add a meaningful wildlife experience to a broader Namibia itinerary.
Fish River Canyon & the Deep South

Best for:
– Scenic journeys, photography safaris, camping safaris, longer touring holidays.
What to do:
– Fish River Canyon is one of the largest canyons in the world and one of Namibia’s most dramatic natural sights.
– It is best suited to longer itineraries, especially for travellers exploring southern Namibia in depth.
Windhoek
Best for:
– Start or end of itinerary, short stays, fly-in connections.
What to do:
– This fascinating city is a blend of German colonial architecture and modern, post-independence African culture. It’s also where you’ll get your best taste of local street food, pick up handmade crafts, and catch your breath at a rooftop bar before taking off on long desert drives.
– Windhoek is usually the gateway to a Namibia safari and works well as a practical overnight stop at the start or end of your trip.
Namibia Safari Camps & Lodges
We have a wide selection of lodges, hotels and safari camps in Namibia’s key areas, including Etosha, Damaraland, the Kalahari, and the Namib Desert.. These can be combined with locations in Zambia , Botswana or a trip to South Africa, and we can tailor a tour to suit your requirements and budget.
We specialise in custom Namibia tours and safaris built around your dreams.
Sossusvlei, Etosha and Damaraland are often the headline attractions. But there is far more to discover.
If you dream of watching sunrise over the dunes of the Namib, tracking desert-adapted elephants and rhino, exploring the Skeleton Coast or enjoying quieter game viewing near Etosha, our specialists will turn those ideas into a carefully planned journey.
Namibia also combines easily with a luxury Botswana safari, and many of our guests opt to travel on to Mozambique or Mauritius or another relaxing beach destination after a sojourn in the exotic African wilderness.
But that’s not all. We can put together a multi-destination holiday across most of Africa. Here are all the countries we operate in.
Whatever your interests are, tell us when you want to travel, how long you have and what matters most to you. We will create a private, customised itinerary that makes every day count.

We also combine road transfers with light aircraft flights, allowing you to enjoy Namibia’s scenery without losing whole days to driving.
This would only be an issue if you tried to squeeze too much into one trip, and our specialists will let you know if they feel you’re being overambitious.
Children love climbing up the sand dunes and sandboarding, rolling, or running straight down the soft red sand. It’s physically engaging, safe, and there’s nowhere else quite like it on Earth to do this activity.
The safaris are also known for their low-stress wildlife viewing. At Etosha's Waterholes, for example, children can watch herds of elephants, giraffes, and zebras take turns drinking without the need for a long drive. Most of Namibia is actually malaria-free (or very low risk) too. So you won’t have to worry about putting young children on anti-malarial medication or constantly checking for mosquito bites. Tom Mees
Jambo, I’m Tommy Mees, most people call me Tom.
My connection with Africa began through years of travelling across the continent.
I later spent more than twelve years managing safari camps and lodges while supporting conservation initiatives including beekeeping and tree-planting projects.
Having travelled extensively throughout Eastern and Southern Africa, I developed a deep appreciation for authentic wilderness experiences and the conservation-focused approach of the Porini Camps.

Andrea Landaeta
Hola, I’m Andrea and my love affair with the captivating world of safaris began during my teenage years when I embarked on my very first safari in Kenya. There, amidst the awe-inspiring wildlife and expansive plains, I found my true passion. Over the years, Kenya has called me back time and time again, leading me to explore its myriad camps, conservancies, and renowned parks. More recently, I’ve had the privilege of staying at all the Porini Camps, where the spotlight shines on wildlife conservation—a cause close to my heart as I traverse the globe. While Kenya holds a special place in my wanderlust-filled heart, Tanzania, Uganda, and Rwanda have also woven their magic into my soul.
If you’re eager to embark on your own safari adventure or share your passion for conservation, please feel free to contact me at andrea@saririterra.com
