Kulala Desert Lodge is situated on the 210 km² private Kulala Wilderness Reserve, south of Sesriem and is situated at the foot of the majestic Sossusvlei Dunes and is the closest location to Sossusvlei (via a private gate exclusive to Wilderness vehicles). The setting and proximity to the red desert dunes, literally only a few steps away, make this lodge an ideal desert destination.

• 2 nights at Onduli Ridge 
Suite – all meals, selected local drinks, laundry, scheduled shared activities, elephant tracking fee & Twyfelfontein fee.

Onduli Ridge, named after the resident giraffe of the area, is built at the base of two south facing granite outcrops which are connected by a ridge. This location allows for magnificent views of Namibia’s highest mountain, the Brandberg, to the south and the dispersed cathedral-like granite inselbergs to the north.

• 3 nights at Ongava Lodge 
Chalet – All meals, twice daily scheduled camp activities & selected local drink & park fees. Excludes premium imported brands & champagne.

Ongava Lodge is a luxury safari lodge, located on top of a hill which offers a beautiful outlook over the private Ongava Reserve and overlooks a well-visited waterhole and the scenery beyond.

Tour Experiences

Day 1 – WINDHOEK – SOSSUSVLEI

After landing at Windhoek’s International Hosea Kutako Airport, about 40 km outside of Windhoek, you will be met by an Ultimate Safaris representative who will discuss your safari with you and introduce you to your pilot, before you board your scheduled shared light aircraft flight to Sossuvlei Area

 
The flight will take you over the central highlands of Namibia before descending the great escarpment and on over the Namib Desert to land at a local airstrip situated in the Sossusvlei Area.
 
Upon arrival at a local airstrip, you will be welcomed by a representative from Kulala Desert Lodge who will take you to your accommodation with time to familiarize yourself with your surroundings.
 
Should time allow, the afternoon can be spent enjoying one of the many shared activities offered by the camp/lodge, or you could take time to relax and appreciate the unique surroundings of the lodge.

Day 2 – SOSSUSVLEI

This morning you will rise early for a magical excursion into the Namib Naukluft National Park, entering the Park gates at sunrise to capture the dunes whilst the light is soft and shadows accentuate their towering shapes and curves. This area boasts some of the highest free-standing sand dunes in the world.
 
Your local guide will give you an insight on the formation of the Namib Desert and its myriad of fascinating creatures and plants that have adapted to survive these harsh environs. Once you have explored the areas around Sossusvlei and Deadvlei to your hearts content return to your lodge in the early afternoon for a late lunch.
 
The rest of the afternoon is at your leisure (from experience, this is usually welcomed after an exhilarating morning in the dunes) or you can join a scheduled activity within the nature reserve as offered by the lodge.

Day 3 – SOSSUSVLEI – DAMARALAND

Today you will be transferred at a pre-arranged time to a local airstrip for your scheduled shared light aircraft flight into the heart of Damaraland. The scheduled shared flight will fly northwest via Swakopmund (for potential refueling) for your onward flight to Damaraland.
 
After your arrival at a local airstrip, you will be met by a lodge representative who will transfer you to your lodge where you can familiarize yourself with your accommodation. Time permitting, the afternoon can be spent enjoying a shared activity as offered by the lodge.
 
Damaraland is typified by displays of colour, magnificent table topped mountains, rock formations and bizarre-looking vegetation. The present day landscape has been formed by the erosion of wind, water and geological forces which have formed rolling hills, dunes, gravel plains and ancient river terraces.
 
It is the variety and loneliness of the area as well as the scenic splendour which will reward and astound you, giving one an authentic understanding of the word ‘wilderness’.

Day 4 – DAMARALAND

After an early breakfast you will be treated to an exciting 4×4 excursion along the ephemeral Aba Huab River valley to explore this remarkable region and to search for game, especially the elusive desert adapted elephants, if they are in the area. Damaraland is home to a variety of desert adapted wildlife and hidden desert treasures.
 
Depending on their location you will either enjoy a picnic lunch out in the field or return to camp for lunch and this afternoon you visit the nearby attractions and geological sites of Twyfelfontein rock engravings (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). Return to Onduli Ridge for some well-deserved leisure time.
 

The rest of the afternoon can be spent on a leisurely nature walk ending with sundowners overlooking the ancient granite landscape, before returning to camp, with time to freshen up before dinner.

Day 5 - DAMARALAND – ONGAVA RESERVE

Today, at a pre-arranged time, a lodge representative will take you to a local airstrip for your light scheduled shared aircraft flight to outskirts of Etosha National Park.
 
After your arrival at a local airstrip, you will be met by a lodge representative who will transfer you to your lodge with time to settle in.

Etosha is Namibia’s premier game viewing destination, large herds of plains game concentrate around the waterholes in the dry season and makes for exciting game viewing. Species that can be seen year round include elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, springbok, oryx, kudu and the diminutive Damara dik-dik. Birdlife is also good with ostrich and raptors in abundance. Local specials include the short-toed rockthrush, Haulaubs francolin, rockrunner, Ruppells parrot, white-tailed shrike and chestnut weaver.

Ongava Game reserve is one of the few private game reserves in Southern Africa where you have a chance of seeing both black and white Rhino. The reserve also has a good population of lion, eland, mountain zebra, black faced impala and a number of other antelope species.

Days 6 & 7 - ONGAVA RESERVE

Two full days to explore Etosha and Ongava Reserve. You will be treated to an exciting morning guided game drive into the Etosha National Park, to see more of the wide variety of game and bird species that are to be found there before returning to Ongava Game Reserve for a late lunch.
 
There is then time to relax by the refreshing swimming pool before you head out for an afternoon game drive on the private game reserve.

Day 8 - WINDHOEK

Today, after an early breakfast and at a time advised by camp management, you will transfer to a local airstrip in time for your light scheduled shared aircraft flight flying back to Windhoek’s Hosea Kutako International Airport in time for your international flight departure and check-in.
 
At the Hosea Kutako International Airport you will be met by a guest liaison who will assist you with your check-in for your departure flight and to bid you farewell or transfer you to your overnight accommodation in Windhoek.
