FAQs - Tanzania Luxury Safaris

Yes, Tanzania is a popular safari destination. The main safari areas used for luxury Tanzania safaris are well-established for tourism, and reputable operators plan routes, transfers and accommodation carefully.
The recommendations regarding vaccinations & anti-malaria tablets need to be discussed with a professional, therefore it is advised that you contact your Doctor/medical centre/ travel health clinic for up-to-date details, this should ideally be done at least 8 weeks before you travel.
Tanzania operates on GMT+3, in line with much of East Africa, so check the time difference before you travel.
Most visitors will need a visa unless they are from a visa-exempt country.
The local currency is the Tanzanian shilling (TZS), but US dollars are also widely used in many tourist areas. You may prefer to carry a combination of both, depending on where you are travelling and what you plan to pay for.
Tanzania is generally warm year-round, but conditions vary by region, altitude and season. Safari areas are often warm in the day and cooler in the mornings and evenings, while coastal areas such as Zanzibar are hotter and more humid. The long rains usually fall around April and May, while shorter rains often occur around November and December, although exact conditions vary each year.
Dress comfortably, practically and in neutral colours (neutral helps to keep insects away). Lightweight layers work best: breathable shirts, comfortable trousers, a fleece or jacket for early morning drives, a hat, sunglasses and sturdy shoes. Even on luxury safaris in Tanzania, the focus is relaxed comfort rather than formal dressing, although you may want a smarter casual outfit for lodge dinners.
The best time for a Tanzania safari is usually June to October for dry-season wildlife viewing, although the Serengeti is exceptional at different times of year depending on the migration. June and July are often strong for the Great Migration, while late January to February is known for calving in the southern Serengeti.
We love our Tanzania Discovery Safari. It’s a carefully designed 7-day journey through northern Tanzania’s most renowned wildlife areas, including the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, absolutely full of romantic, stunning landscapes with consistently rewarding game viewing.
We would recommend at least 7 to 10 days, or 10 to 14 days if you want to add Zanzibar or another beach escape. This gives you enough time to enjoy the Serengeti, Ngorongoro and another safari region without rushing between camps. For Tanzania adventure safaris with walking, camping or Kilimanjaro add-ons, a longer itinerary gives you more variety and a better pace.
