Visit The Ark

Located right in the heart of the Aberdare National Park, this iconic tree-top lodge has viewing decks and balconies that overlook a floodlit waterhole and salt lick to which many animals are attracted by day and night. Game drives are taken in the surrounding park which contains a wide variety of wildlife for which Kenya is famous.

As part of the Aberdare Mountain Range, the Aberdare National Park offers beautiful scenery with towering peaks which stand up to 3,930m and deep ravines that cut through the rainforest. The area is ideal for game-viewing with many species evident including elephant, buffalo, Black Rhino, leopard, lion, baboon, black and white Colobus monkey and sykes monkey. At higher levels Eland and serval cats can also be found.

Accommodation

The Ark is unique in that it has been specially designed in the shape of Noah’s Ark. With an attractive timber, stilted construction it is comprised of three decks with 60 guest “cabins” and two lounges. Each guest cabin has en suite facilities with shower and w.c.

The cabins even have special buzzers to alert guests to the arrival of any big animals at the waterhole.

Facilities & Activities

The Ark has public areas to include a dining room, a bar and two lounges (non-smoking).

There are various well-placed balconies and sitting areas that give wonderful viewing points from which to enjoy the activities at the Yasabara waterhole and salt lick. The waterhole is floodlit from 6pm until dawn so guests can simply sit back and enjoy the game-viewing all evening.

Accommodation is on a Full Board basis. Meals are served at the dining room or a picnic lunch is available for those out on game drives during the day. The bar and lounge on one of the viewing decks remain open all night serving tea and coffee for those wanting to stay up and view the wildlife.

A special feature is the ground level hide which allows guests to view and photograph animals from a wonderful, close-up vantage point.

Nature walks, mountain hikes, fishing trips and game drives can also be arranged from the lodge (supplements apply for these activities, payable at the lodge).
