Visit Saruni Rhino Camp
Saruni Rhino is the first community-owned and community-run Rhino Sanctuary in Sera Community Conservancy, after an absence of a quarter of a century, marking an historical achievement for conservation and tourism in Kenya. Saruni Rhino offers the first rhino tracking experience in East Africa: an amazing walking safari that provides a uniquely thrilling adventure, but also allows guests to actively contribute to the protection of this iconic species. Herds of elephants populate this vast landscape, offering also amazing birdwatching and cultural experiences with the “singing wells”.
Saruni Rhino is comprised of three elegant ‘bandas’ (open-fronted stone cottages) sleeping either two to four people in king-sized beds, and a main open-fronted cottage for communal dining and relaxing. All bandas have flushing w.c’s, hot and cold water, natural stone showers and private verandas with dry riverbed views. Nestled amidst swaying doum palms giving it the ultimate beach-club feel, sandy terraces with sun loungers and umbrellas line a dry river bed (the Kauro ‘lugga’), the perfect location for daily bush dinners under the vast African skies. Simple yet elegant in its design, the intimate and exclusive lodge is designed in true Saruni-style in harmony with surroundings and offers sweeping views of a nearby waterhole and dramatic landscape so typical of the north. The waterhole is a popular watering stop-off for a range of wildlife making it great ‘bush TV’ from the comfort of your sandy veranda at any time.
Activities:
- Explore an array of activities in addition to the on-foot black rhino tracking experience; from spectacular bird watching, bush dinners, game drives – there is so much to do when not in search of the elusive rhino!
- Be captivated by an excursion to the nearby ‘singing wells’ – a series of natural wells frequented by singing pastoralists watering their livestock.
- Enjoy daily visits to the waterhole situated metres away from your veranda. Gaze upon elephants, hyena, impala, bird life, and warthogs, just some of the sightings waiting for your up-close-and-personal enjoyment.
