Gamewatchers was excellent in all ways!
Baruch R
Gamewatchers was excellent in all ways. They created a great itinerary in alignment with our budget and took care of all the details. Our two-country 10 day safari was fantastic without any glitches or missed details. The service providers on the ground in Tanzania and Uganda were all exceptionally friendly and capable.

Choose a local safari expert and start planning.

The country’s most iconic wildlife experience is undoubtedly the chance to encounter endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. Over half of the world’s remaining gorilla population lives in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, with more in the nearby Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Unlike other species, gorillas cannot survive in captivity—making Uganda one of the only places on Earth where you can stand just metres away from a wild silverback. Gorilla trekking here is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Uganda is currently home to several habituated gorilla families, most open to small-scale tourism and one group dedicated to research. Gorilla permits directly support conservation efforts and help fund local community development, making this a deeply meaningful and sustainable travel experience.

Beyond the forests, Uganda offers game drives and safari activities in Queen Elizabeth National Park, boat safaris along the Nile in Murchison Falls, chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest, and off-the-beaten-track adventures in Kidepo Valley National Park. Whether you’re drawn by the primates, birdlife, or untamed beauty, Uganda offers a safari unlike any other.

See the very best of Uganda on your schedule and at your own pace.

Start planning your luxury safari in Uganda today. Uganda delivers one of Africa’s most varied safari experiences. It hosts over half the world’s remaining mountain gorilla population, making it the number one destination for gorilla trekking safaris in Africa.

Gorilla safaris in Uganda, we find, are the country’s main attraction. But there’s so much more.

If you dream of tracking silverback gorillas at dawn in some of Africa’s oldest jungles, sailing down the Nile on a private sunset cruise, or searching for the tree-climbing lions of Ishasha or cruising past elephants, hippos and buffalo along the Kazinga Channel, our experts will turn those dreams into extraordinary memories.

Tell us when you want to travel, how long you have and what matters most to you. Our safari specialists will create a private, customised itinerary that makes every day of the journey count.

FAQs — Luxury Uganda Safaris.

Yes. Uganda is a brilliant first safari destination if you want plenty of variety rather than game drives alone. You can track gorillas and chimpanzees, cruise along the Nile, search for tree-climbing lions and stay in beautiful forest and riverside lodges, all within one carefully planned trip. There is quite a lot to organise, but you will not be expected to figure it out alone. Our specialists take a hands-on approach from your first enquiry through to your journey home, arranging your route, accommodation, permits, flights and transfers.
You do not need to be an athlete, but a reasonable level of fitness will make the experience more comfortable. Gorilla trekking can involve steep slopes, muddy paths and uneven rainforest terrain, and the length of the walk depends on where the gorilla family is that day. We encourage you to read more about our gorilla safaris here.
Your chances of seeing mountain gorillas are very high, but no responsible safari operator should guarantee a wild animal sighting. We use experienced trackers who follow the movements of habituated gorilla families before and during each trek, so in most cases, they know where they are likely to be before you even set off.
Our Uganda wildlife safaris, once a price has been agreed for your custom adventure, are all-inclusive and will cover accommodation, meals, scheduled activities, park fees, gorilla and chimpanzee permits, road transfers and internal flights. Drinks may be additional depending on your choice of accommodation.
Yes. We can recommend suitable lodges, shorter transfers and less physically demanding experiences, including boat cruises, game drives and relaxed wildlife viewing. Gorilla trekking takes place on steep, uneven forest trails, so it may not be appropriate for every traveller. Tell us about any mobility concerns or health conditions at the start, and we will give you an honest answer about what is practical and where the itinerary can be adjusted.
The best time to go is from June to September. But there are extraordinary things to see and do all year round. Read our Uganda travel information guide for more information.
Yes, and many of our guests combine two or more countries in one journey. Uganda works particularly well with our luxury safaris in Kenya, where you can pair gorilla tracking with a traditional savannah safari. It can also be combined with Rwanda safaris, our luxury Tanzania safaris or a relaxing Indian Ocean beach stay. Wherever it is you want to go, what interests you, we can make it happen.
Absolutely. We specialise in putting together completely customised safari experiences based on whatever our guests want, and private experiences are a core part of that offering. Speak to one of our safari specialists to start planning.
Yes, most of the luxury camps and lodges we work with can cater for dietary requirements when told in advance. This commonly includes vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and allergy-conscious meals. Tell our specialist about any allergies, intolerances or preferences during the planning stage. We will pass the details to each property on your route, so you should not have to start the same conversation again every time you change lodges.
Yes. Your itinerary will be customised to favour lodges and operators that protect wildlife habitats and create meaningful local employment. Responsible tourism is not treated as an optional extra at Gamewatchers Safaris. It is part of how we have operated for decades.
