4 Day Walking Safari
Each of our Kenya walking safari itineraries can be booked as one of three different versions – “Luxury walking safari with camels”, “Classic walking safari with camels” or “Tumaren satellite camp safari”.
The Luxury walking safari with camels offers a little more extravagance and is a journey as the camp moves along with you with the help of the staff and camels(10-25 camels depending n the group size). The 4 poster bed is left behind, but the king size mattress, feather pillow and duvet are not. Your accommodation is in a large, traditional, canvas tent with a chair, table, mirror, drinking water and a basin on the veranda. The bedding has 2 pillows, sheets and duvets, dressing gowns, towels, hot water bottles, solar lights, headlamps, and carpets. You can request for a bucket shower which comes with plenty of hot water. Meals are of great quality with breakfast and dinner served to the table and an informal buffet-style lunch. Beer, wine and spirits are also included for those who love to have their taste of alcohol in the wild. (Excludes luxury spirits and champagne). You will visit the various Manyattas, see the dances and local markets (Tuesday and Wednesdays only).
The Classic walking safari with camels is a journey as the camp moves along with you with the help of the staff and camels. There are no vehicles and the size of the camp is limited to how much the camels can carry (8 – 14 camels depending on the size of the group). Accommodation is in spacious 8 man dome tents for 1 or 2 people with bedding and pillow with towel. There is a table with a mirror and water. You will get a flash light and solar light in the tent, and carpets and a stool add to the tent comforts. Walks are led by English speaking guides and hosted by expert Samburu or Laikipia Maasai guides and tracker who will share their knowledge on the flora and fauna, and their local customs. You will enjoy a nice hot shower and toilets are available. Delicious meals are served and if you wish for some beer, wine or spirit, this is also included. The classic safari is perfect for budget-conscious travellers for whom the experience is more important than luxuries.
N/B: If you would like Kerry Glen or James Christian to guide the safari there is a supplement to be added.

Itinerary in Detail
DAY BY DAY
Tour Experiences
Day 1
You will be met in Nanyuki or from Porini Rhino Camp and taken to the start of the safari. The drive is about 2 hours through pretty countryside, hopefully seeing some wildlife along the way. Nayasura Camp / Tumaren. A beautiful outcrop of stone overshadows the camp and you will have seen the feature from miles as you approached in the vehicle. The local Laikipia Maasai call these rocks Nayasura and stone chippings. After lunch we head out on a short walk looking for game and getting a feel for the country. As the sun begins to set we will find ourselves at the crest of Nayasura to relax with drinks while watching the baboon troops return to settle on the face of the rock.
Day 2
From Nayasura we head out early after breakfast to see as much game as possible on our walk north towards Nyarara Camp. Nyarara means Cheetah in Maasai and the camp was given this name because of a large male that has been seen in the area. Along our walk we will cross plains as well as mixed bush. Herds of Zebra, Oryx and Grant’s Gazelle predominate on the large plains with smaller numbers of Jackson’s Hartebeest and Thompson’s Gazelle. In the mixed bush we also have a chance of seeing Dikdiks, Gerenuk, Impala and Lesser Kudu. The pack camels with the camp will have made a more direct route than us and so they will have arrived and set up most of camp before our arrival. After lunch we can relax and read (or the energetic can play badminton) and later we take an evening walk to a pretty spot for sundowners.
Day 3
Today we will be heading down toward the Ewaso Nyiro River, which runs along the eastern edge of the Laikipia Plateau and then turns eastward toward Samburu National Reserve. Along the way we will be looking for Eland, Steinbuck, Giraffe, Waterbuck and Grevy’s Zebra as well as the more elusive predators such as Wild Dog, Hyena, Lion, Leopard and Cheetah. We will spend the afternoon relaxing, swimming and fishing by the river before taking an evening walk to a sundowner spot with wonderful views of Mount Kenya. We then continue to camp.
Day 4
After breakfast you will be driven to Nanyuki for your onward flight or to continue to Porini Rhino Camp.
