Mara Ripoi Conservancy, Maasai Mara

Mara Ripoi Conservancy is one of the newest and most exciting wildlife conservancies within the greater Mara–Serengeti ecosystem, covering 13,500 acres of pristine wilderness. Established through a partnership between Gamewatchers Safaris and approximately local Maasai landowners, the conservancy is leased for 25 years to ensure the land remains protected as a vital wildlife habitat. This long-term agreement provides a sustainable income for the Maasai community while safeguarding one of Kenya’s most ecologically important areas.

Mara Ripoi is a critical link in the network of Mara conservancies, connecting directly to Siana Conservancy and the Maasai Mara National Reserve, and forming a natural wildlife corridor along the Ripole River to Ol Kinyei Conservancy. This connectivity allows for the free movement of elephants, lions, cheetahs, giraffes, wildebeest, and countless other species across a vast, uninterrupted landscape. The conservancy is particularly renowned for its healthy populations of Maasai giraffe, big cats, and other plains game.

With only three small safari camps, including Porini Giraffe Camp, Mara Ripoi offers a truly exclusive and low-impact safari experience. Tourist numbers are strictly limited—each guest tent effectively protects around 700 acres of wilderness—ensuring that guests enjoy the rare privilege of having thousands of acres virtually to themselves.

The conservancy’s diverse terrain includes open savannahs, acacia woodland, and rolling hills, providing excellent wildlife viewing and photographic opportunities throughout the year. The local Maasai guides, raised on this land, share their deep knowledge of the wildlife and landscape, offering guests authentic, insightful, and respectful encounters with nature.
