The small and intimate Porini Giraffe Camp is in a forested area of Camphor bush (African Wild Sage or called Leleshwa in Kenya) and Yellow Bark Acacia along the Ripole River in the Mara Ripoi Conservancy. This exclusive game-rich 13,500 acre wildlife conservancy is comprised of beautiful hills, forests and open plains and is home to a large abundance of wildlife including the big cats. The conservancy connects onto Siana conservancy and then directly to the Mara Reserve and so allowing free movement of wildlife from the Reserve as well as through a wildlife corridor along the Ripole River to Ol Kinyei Conservancy. Guests will also have access to the Mara Reserve and also Ol Kinyei Conservancy.

Porini Giraffe Camp has 8 guest tents and offers a personal and authentic experience for a safari in the Masai Mara, providing a great alternative to the large mass-market tourist lodges. The camp has a dining tent and separate comfortable lounge all located along the Ripole river. The camp welcomes children aged 8 years and over (see Prices Information for more details).

The camp provides guests with the opportunity to stay at a truly eco-friendly bush camp where there are no permanent structures and there is minimal impact on the environment.

This 13,500 acre Kenyan wildlife conservancy is on a tranche of land belonging to a Maasai community who have leased it to us for the purposes of wildlife conservation.

Mara Ripoi Conservancy is home to only 3 small camps (including Porini as a founding member) and no other tourist vehicles are allowed into the Conservancy, so our guests have the thousands of acres in the conservancy to themselves.

Accommodation

The camp is designed in the style of the traditional safari camps that have been accommodating visitors on safari in Kenya since the early years. Each guest tent is comfortably furnished with proper beds, linen and duvets. The en suite bathrooms have a shower, washbasin and flush toilet. Gas and solar lamps provide lighting.

There is a separate dining tent where guests enjoy high-quality meals prepared by the experienced camp chef. These include a full breakfast with cereals, fruit and choice of eggs, light salad lunch and a three course dinner.

In the evenings the campfire provides a meeting point for guests to get together, relax with a drink and share the day’s sightings.

Itinerary

Day 1

Depart from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport on the 10am flight to the Mara. Met at the Mara Naboisho Ol Seki airstrip by Porini staff and transfer to camp. After lunch take an afternoon game drive, stopping at a scenic point for a sundowner. Dinner and overnight at camp.

Day 2

A full day to explore Mara Ripoi Conservancy on the lookout for elephants, buffalo, giraffe, plains game and the big cats. Wake up at dawn and enjoy an early game drive in the conservancy, returning to camp for a late breakfast followed by an escorted nature walk and then lunch. In the afternoon enjoy another game drive in the Conservancy with a night drive as you head back to camp driving in the dark with a filtered spotlight for the chance to see the nocturnal animals. Dinner and overnight at Porini Giraffe Camp.

Day 3

Take an early morning walk in the Conservancy escorted by Maasai warriors and return for breakfast. Transfer to the airstrip and fly back to Nairobi (arriving around 12.15pm).

PORINI GIRAFFE CAMP, 2 NIGHTS FLYING PACKAGE (MARA RIPOI CONSERVANCY, MASAI MARA):

Child rates applicable to children aged 8 to 16 years:

1 child sharing with 2 adults – child pays child package price above and 2 adults each pay the per adult sharing rate.
1 child sharing with 1 adult – child pays child package price above and adult pays the single adult rate.
2 or 3 children sharing in own tent – each child pays 75% of the per adult rate.
When sharing, so that 3 persons are in tent, child will be on camp bed as tents are too small for an extra bed.
Camp not recommended for children aged under 8 years.

Exclusive vehicle: sole use of the open sided 4×4 safari vehicle during game drive US$ 375 per vehicle per day.

Late Afternoon Departure: Late departure from camp after 10.00 a.m. is US$ 150 per person – minimum 2 people (includes lunch, soft drinks and activities before departure in the late afternoon with transfer to airstrip. Guests are required to check out of their tent by 10.00).

Optional flight supplement:

Mombasa: fly from Masai Mara to Diani / Ukunda / Moi Airport instead of flying to Nairobi: US$ 430 per adult / US$ 285 per child aged 8 – 11 years (one way flight). Includes late departure charge and mandatory US $80 park fee.

Extra night rate:

For every 2 or 3 night stay one visit into Masai Mara National Reserve is included. Extra night rates include activities on the Conservancy. Any extra visit into the National Reserve is subject to the extra Reserve fee of US$ 80 per person per day on top of the above rates.

We own and operate Porini Giraffe Camp within Mara Ripoi Conservancy, generating an income and employment opportunities for the local people. The community is receiving a rent for the lease of the area by Porini Safari Camps, plus an entry fee for each tourist visitor. All roads have been constructed using local labour so that the members of the community gain employment from the Conservancy. In addition to the road maintenance team, Game rangers have been employed to carry out patrols to see that the wildlife is protected.
