The brand-new Porini Cheetah Camp is the latest in the Porini portfolio of small tented camps, designed to maximize your wildlife experience. It is hosted by Jui and Nirmalya Banerjee who are avid wildlife enthusiasts themselves.

Like all the other camps, the Porini Cheetah Camp is unfenced and located inside a private conservancy far from the usual safari crowds. It has just six spacious guest tents. The camp is entirely solar-powered and the comfortable tents have ensuite bathrooms with hot shower, flush toilet and water on tap. The chef uses fresh ingredients to prepare high quality meals and even home-baked bread. Indian cuisine is available on request.

Location

The Ol Kinyei conservancy, where this camp is located, is exclusive to Porini Camps and plays host to just one other non-seasonal camp which makes for an extraordinarily intimate wildlife experience, with very few other cars sharing your sightings. The conservancy is a recognized hotspot for the big cats and especially cheetahs, which are seen regularly, often with cubs. It is also home to large herds of elephants, apart from the plains game for which the Maasai Mara eco-system is justly famous. Game drives can also be taken in the nearby Maasai Mara National Reserve and the adjacent Naboisho Conservancy.

The Porini Cheetah Camp is located close to the Olare Lemunyi watercourse, between the White Rock feature on the one hand and a marsh fed by a permanent underground spring that is a magnet for the antelopes and zebras, especially in the dry season. The White Rock is an excellent location for sun downers because of the view from the top.

Fully Inclusive Accommodation

Porini Cheetah Camp is fully-inclusive of meals, drinks- gin & tonics, wine, beer, soft drinks and mineral water- and activities including day and night game drives, sundowners and escorted walks. There is also the option of booking a hot air balloon safari. Game drives (shared) are in 4×4 safari vehicles with expert safari guides and you will experience the wilderness without the presence of many other tourist vehicles.

Porini Cheetah Camp Highlights

  • Morning, evening and night shared game drives in Ol Kinyei Conservancy and the adjacent Naboisho Conservancy. (Private vehicles available at a supplement).
  • Full day spent in Mara National Reserve with picnic lunch
  • Bush breakfast and game drive in Naboisho Conservancy
  • Escorted walk with Maasai guides
  • Sundowner drinks to watch the sunset from scenic viewing points

*In the event of heavy rainfall causing flooding of roads preventing access to the Porini Camps or to the parks, we may be obliged to amend the safari arrangements to offer a suitable alternative safari.

Conservation & Responsible Tourism

The Porini Safari Camps are environmentally-friendly Eco-Camps that have been established in exclusive Wildlife Conservancies and are carefully managed to ensure that local communities, the environment and visitors benefit from our Conservancy concept. We ensure that the communities living alongside national parks and reserves derive tangible benefits from conserving the indigenous habitat for wildlife. Visitors gain a superior safari experience in pristine, game-filled areas where the wildlife is safe and protected. Read more about Responsible Tourism here.

We own and operate Porini Cheetah Camp within Ol Kinyei Conservancy, generating an income and employment opportunities for local people. The community is receiving a rent for the lease of the area by Porini Safari Camps, plus an entry fee for each tourist visitor. All roads have been constructed using local labour so that the members of the community gain employment from the Conservancy. In addition to the road maintenance team, Game Scouts have been employed to carry out patrols to see that the wildlife is protected.
