A private bush house offers a premium safari adventure with exclusive use of a secluded property in Kenya’s most game-rich areas plus the flexibility and freedom of personal game drives and activities.
The Mara bush houses are ideal for couples, families or groups who seek a private safari in a tranquil setting. They offer an away-from-it-all experience and a chance to view a profusion of wildlife in natural surroundings with the benefit of personal staff on hand.
We offer a choice of three beautiful properties – Acacia House, Mara House and Topi House. Each is run by friendly and experienced staff, including a home manager, personal chef and dedicated driver-guide.
The private chef prepares all meals to a high standard and will cater for bush picnics or lunches under the acacia trees by the pool.
The expert, qualified guides have years of experience of the landscape and guests gain a thorough insight into the flora and fauna of the surrounding area. A wide range of safari activities is available including escorted walks, day or night game drives and visits to local villages and trading centres.
At a private bush house guests receive true home from home hospitality and a personalised safari, completely tailored to suit their requirements.
The private Acacia House is located in the Ol Chorro Losoit valley in the Lemek hills and on the 70,000 acre Mara North Conservancy. This area has been put aside for the conservation of wildlife and is now home to an abundance of species including the big cats.
This three-bedroom house has an open-plan dining and seating area with a log fire which creates a cosy atmosphere on cooler evenings. There are two spacious en suite double bedrooms and a third attic bedroom ideal for children. A spacious open-air verandah has a wonderful vantage point overlooking the Ol Chorro waterhole.
At the side of the house, raised above the waterhole, there is a pool and a barbecue area ideal for relaxing, dining and socialising between game drives. (NB this pool is shared with nearby Mara House).
Game drives are taken mainly within the conservancies of Mara North, Ol Chorro and Lemek – an area of about 100,000 acres. Trips into the main Masai Mara National Reserve can be arranged (park fee payable).
This three bedroom private bush house is also located within the Ol Chorro Losoit valley, ideal for guests wanting to gain some of the best wildlife-viewing opportunities in the Mara.
Like the other houses, Mara House has been well designed to make the most of its surroundings. The spacious main living areas have been placed at the front and lead on to a verandah from where there are unsurpassed views over the waterhole. There are three double bedrooms (all en suite) and guests enjoy plenty of indoor as well as outdoor space. The pool provides a welcome place to relax between excursions. (NB pool shared with Acacia House).
Game drives are primarily in the conservancies of Mara North, Ol Chorro and Lemek – an area of about 100,000 acres. Trips into the Masai Mara National Reserve can be taken (park fee payable).
Topi House is a 45 minute game drive from Ol Kiombo airstrip and borders both the 23,000 acre Olare Orok Conservancy and the Masai Mara National Reserve. It has been thoughtfully located to maximise the wonderful views through the small thorn tree forest, in which the house is set, over the boundary and beyond into the National Reserve. The surrounding area is ideal for bush picnics and sundowners with a view.
Topi House is positioned directly on the wildebeest migration route and has been known to experience huge volumes of game right up to the front door.
The house has three generous bedrooms (all en suite) that are connected by a large verandah, and at one end is a living area which consists of an open plan sitting / dining room with an open log fire. Guests enjoy evenings under the stars either on the verandah or around the camp fire near the house.
Guests have the freedom to plan the day as they choose as each house has a fully qualified safari guide and vehicle at its disposal for a choice of activities such as:
- Game drives – day and night to see the wildlife and beauty of the conservancy as well as the Masai Mara Game Reserve
- Bush walks – get up close with the landscape and wildlife on guided walks
- Cultural & village visits
