Safari without crowds or mass tourism.

Strict vehicle limits to ensure peaceful, crowd-free game viewing within pristine natural surroundings.

This extremely low density puts less pressure on the animals, resulting in more natural behaviour and longer, uninterrupted sightings.

A safari experience like no other.

Unlike natural parks, conservancy land allows off‑road driving and optimal dawn or dusk tracking for the most authentic encounters.

With no time limits, you can quietly observe these magnificent animals up close, watching their behaviour, interactions, and movements in complete freedom.

Once in a lifetime experience
Amita R - February 2026
I love every detail of the Gamewatchers camp experience. The decor inspired by the animals and sourced from local ceramicists and other vendors, the ecological intention behind the design of the camp, the hot water bottle in your bed at night, the delicious food, and the attention paid by the chef to your dietary restrictions and preferences. Porini Rhino Camp looks over a watering hole that attracted impalas, kudus, a lone male buffalo, and many beautiful birds during our stay. It was a privilege to spend an afternoon in the hide and see so many animals up close. They are even more beautiful at such close quarters! And it was such a fun experience to drink a Tusker and whisper with friends as you admire these visitors. One of my favorite parts of the Gamewatchers experience is the evening bonfires when you get to chat with the staff and meet other guests from all around the world. Gamewatchers' ethos around benefit sharing, sustainability, and investment in Kenya's natural infrastructure, attracts a specific type of clientele who approach these safari experiences with curiosity and respect, are diverse and interesting. I have always found this to be an unexpected perk in my Gamewatchers safari experiences.

The stay at this camp was incomparable! We were treated like royalty. The individual tents were lovely and well kept. The staff were all very friendly and knew us all by name. The manager DG was second to none! There is an abundance of food and a good variety. You will never go hungry! Our driver Daulton and our spotter Ben were great. Daulton took us out for a night drive and we saw the elusive striped hyena! Very rare to see. I don't know how he spotted it but that's what makes him a great driver! The weather is cooler because of the altitude but I preferred that. I would highly recommend this group. We rarely even saw another tour vehicle which makes the safari much more enjoyable and better for the wildlife. And the camp is solar powered. Loved every minute and can't wait until I can return!

If you’re seeking a meaningful, eco-luxury, low‑impact rhino safari far from the crowds, you’ll find it at Porini Rhino Camp.

A safari is a significant investment in time, money and expectation. And while there are countless safari options out there, all promising something similar, it’s rarely clear what actually sets one experience apart from another. And when you’re investing in a trip like this, that uncertainty matters.

You may have seen images of vehicles crowding around wildlife. Multiple groups competing for the same sighting. Moments that feel rushed, noisy, and far from the experience you imagined. Animal sightings that were promised, but never materialise or, worse, sightings that distressed the animals.

That’s not what you want, and it’s certainly not what our Porini Rhino Camp is about either.

Our Porini Rhino Camp gives you the greatest opportunity to see black & southern white rhinos in the wild.

And the only opportunity to see the last two northern white rhinos in the wild.

Located in Laikipia, with dramatic views of Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountains, Ol Pejeta Conservancy is a 90,000-acre sanctuary surrounded by a landscape of other private and community conservancies, giving it a raw, untamed feel and a far quieter, more exclusive atmosphere than most other classic safari destinations.

It’s one of the very best places for rhino safaris in Kenya, where you can see these rare and disappearing animals in their natural habitat.

It’s also a wonderful place to experience first-hand the conservation efforts being put into action to give these magnificent creatures a new chance of replenishing themselves.

But that doesn’t mean you have to choose between comfort and conservation. At our Porini Camps, you get both.

Here’s a taste of what you can experience on our rhino African safaris:

Everything comes together at our Porini Rhino Camp, giving you a rare chance to experience the animals in a way that feels natural, unhurried, and genuinely meaningful.

Unspoiled Wilderness
Located in the 90,000-acre Ol Pejeta Conservancy - a Big Five Conservancy and home to the last two remaining northern white rhinos on Earth —untouched and uncrowded.

Explore vast, uncrowded landscapes rich with biodiversity and dramatic views of Mount Kenya.

Home to Kenya’s largest population of black rhinos—as well as elephants, lions, and more—the conservancy offers unmatched wildlife encounters in a peaceful, crowd-free setting.

Safari Activities
Day & night game drives led by expert KPSGA-certified Maasai guides

Guided bush walks to learn tracks, plants, and wildlife up close.

Capture incredible moments from our wildlife photography hide positioned near a waterhole.

More Information

Tucked away in the heart of Kenya’s 90,000-acre Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Porini Rhino Camp offers an extraordinary safari experience where conservation, community, and comfort come together in perfect harmony. This secluded eco-camp is a haven for nature lovers and responsible travelers looking to witness Africa’s iconic wildlife while contributing directly to the protection of endangered species and the upliftment of local communities

Porini Rhino Camp lies amidst unspoiled savannahs, flanked by the Aberdare Mountains and Mount Kenya.

The camp itself is designed for exclusivity and low-impact living. With just seven guest tents and two family units nestled in a tranquil riverine woodland, Porini Rhino Camp accommodates no more than 14 guests (+ children) at a time, ensuring privacy and a deeply personal connection with nature.

Each tent offers a classic safari style with en-suite facilities, solar-powered lighting, charging points, and a private veranda.

The camp avoids permanent structures and is built with environmentally conscious materials, exemplifying Porini’s ethos of leaving the land as untouched as possible.

Guests can enjoy a wide range of immersive experiences, from expertly guided day and night game drives in open 4x4 vehicles, to walking safaris with Maasai Guides and visits to the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary. For the adventurous, optional horseback or cycling safaris offer unique perspectives of the conservancy. And just beyond, in specially protected enclosures, live some of the most critically endangered animals on Earth - the last two surviving northern white rhinos under round-the-clock protection.

The camp has the benefit of a wildlife viewing hide which enables guests to observe and photograph wildlife safely, yet in close proximity. The hide has been carefully placed to enhance wildlife-viewing right in front of camp, and with the peaceful setting and the animals freely strolling in, guests can really immerse themselves in the surroundings and feel part of nature.

Back at camp, sundowners, stargazing, and fireside dining make for magical evenings under the African sky.

Beyond the wilderness, Porini Rhino Camp tells a greater story. It stands as a model of community-based conservation, where tourism directly funds healthcare, education, and livelihoods for surrounding communities. Long-term land lease agreements and local employment ensure that the benefits of conservation are shared and sustained.

The camp staff are drawn from different Kenyan communities including members of the Maasai community from our conservancy projects at Selenkay in Amboseli and Ol Kinyei and Olare Motorogi in the Mara.

Guests can connect more deeply by supporting grassroots initiatives like youth beekeeping and school development via the Wildlife Habitat Trust — where 100% of donations go to community projects.

FAQs - Porini Rhino Safaris in Africa

Is staying in a remote, eco-camp less comfortable than a lodge or hotel?

Not at all. Each tent is spacious with a double bed and offers a classic safari style with en-suite facilities, solar-powered lighting, charging points, and a private veranda. The dining tent and lounge are large and inviting centres to relax in.

We’re confident you’ll love staying in our Porini Rhino Camp. However, if you want a national park experience and to stay in an eco-lodge, then view our Rhino River Camp page now — for one of Kenya’s best kept secrets.

What if I want to travel with family and friends?

There are two family units at Porini Rhino Camp made of high-quality canvas, spacious, measuring 144 square metres.
Each unit consists of two bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms with a lounge in between. Each of the two rooms has a king-size bed and a single bed.

The units are ideal for families or groups of friends travelling together and are at the same price per person as our other tents. The camp welcomes children aged 8 years and over (see Pricing Information for more details).

Is it not dangerous, being out in the open, in predator territory?

No. At all times, highly trained guides and experienced camp staff will ensure your safety while allowing you to experience wildlife up close.

At night you are guided around the camp and back to your tent by Maasai Guides.

How can I be sure your Porini Camps are truly eco‑friendly?

The camp itself has a tiny eco-footprint and relies on solar power and low-impact fuels to minimise environmental disruption. It avoids permanent structures and is built with environmentally conscious materials, exemplifying our ethos of leaving the land as untouched as possible.

While you’re here, guests can connect more deeply by supporting grassroots initiatives like youth beekeeping and school development via the Wildlife Habitat Trust, where 100% of donations go to community projects.

Are there hidden costs I should worry about?

No. Accommodation is fully inclusive of all meals, drinks (beer, wine, sodas, vodka, gin & tonics and mineral water) as well as all activities (including day and night game drives, escorted walks and sundowners).

Limited laundry is available at no charge. Laundry is done by hand and dried outdoors; turnaround time is dependent on the weather. Out of respect to local culture and customs, we do not wash underwear. Washing powder is provided in all of our guest rooms, should guests wish to wash their own.

What wildlife can I expect to see besides giraffes?
The area is known for its big cats, including lions, cheetahs and leopards. There is also an abundance of zebras in the area. Other wildlife includes elephants, hyenas, buffalo, and antelopes.
What is the overall atmosphere of the camp?
Imagine a calm, intimate safari experience with just a handful of like-minded travellers in the wide open wilderness. There may be six to ten other couples or small groups, so you will be able to relax in almost total peace and immerse yourself in nature.
How do I get to Porini Giraffe Camp?

For guests staying at Porini Giraffe Camp, we can arrange to book return flights from Nairobi to the nearby airstrip using the daily scheduled services of Kenya’s leading safari airlines, at the applicable air fares.
If you are coming from one of our other Porini Camps in the Ol Kinyei or Olare Motorogi Conservancies, we can arrange a safari transfer.

How is the food? Do you cater for dietary requirements?

Porini Giraffe Camp is fully able to cater for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, and other dietary needs with advance notice.

Is there wifi or phone signal if we need to stay connected?

There is phone signal at the Porini Giraffe Camp, and Wi-Fi in some communal areas.

And while many guests will enjoy the chance to disconnect, there is still enough connectivity to stay in touch if needed.

What's included in the stay at Porini Giraffe Camp?

  • Off-road driving for closer sightings.
  • Night drives using red-filtered spotlights.
  • Guided bush walks with Maasai trackers.
  • Bush breakfasts, picnics and sundowners.
What is a typical day like at Porini Giraffe Camp?

This is our second time at Porini Rhino Camp and we will certainly return. We took the quick small plane flight from Wilson Airport and arrived to two enthusiastic, friendly and helpful guides waiting for us. From the time you arrive until the time you are dropped back at the airport, everyone is extremely helpful and friendly and everything about the camp and the area is superb. The camp is situated with a waterhole where an abundance of animals visit. The drives are magnificent with sightings of many animals. The food is superb and plentiful. Our tents have been comfortable, roomy and always clean. Depending on your tent site, you may be able to sit outside and watch the animals at the water hole, if not, there is a hide right beside the water hole. The staff are magnificent and the atmosphere at the camp wonderful. I almost forgot, the Rhino sightings are very special and a visit to the sanctuary a must. The manager, David, is magnificent. Highly recommend a stay at Porini Rhino Camp. You will love it.

A Truly Unforgettable Safari Experience – An Absolute Must-Stay

Our stay here was nothing short of extraordinary and truly the best trip. This is an absolute must-stay if you're planning a safari in Kenya, as the entire service was simply excellent. Our safari guides, Dalton, Baxon, and Eric provided us with an unforgettable experience as their knowledge and passion for wildlife and nature ensured we got close encounters and saw all the exotic animals on our list - lions, rhinos, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, etc – truly everything we dreamed of seeing and more! Back at the lodge, DJ, Joel, and the entire team continued to exceed our expectations. The staff are not only incredibly hardworking and attentive but also genuinely kind, humorous and receptive to every need. The food was exquisite, the rooms were comfortable and beautifully appointed, and the evening entertainment and animal sightings around the camp were perfectly managed, adding to the magic of our stay. This remarkable experience is a testament to the dedication of everyone involved. We cannot recommend this lodge highly enough and eagerly anticipate our next visit!
