Ngaga Lodge: Gorilla Trekking in Odzala-Kokoua, Republic of the Congo
Ngaga Lodge is a small forest lodge on the western boundary of Odzala-Kokoua National Park, offering access to Western Lowland Gorilla tracking and guided exploration of the Congo Basin rainforest.
Ngaga Lodge is set within the Ndzehi Forest on the western boundary of Odzala-Kokoua National Park in the Republic of the Congo.
Surrounded by equatorial rainforest, the lodge provides a base for tracking Western Lowland Gorillas and exploring one of Central Africa’s most biodiverse wilderness areas. Originally established as a centre for primate research and a pilot gorilla tourism project, Ngaga remains closely connected to ongoing gorilla research and tracking.
Guests can also take part in guided forest walks, night walks and wildlife and birding activities while staying in six raised forest chalets.

Jambo, I’m Tommy Mees, most people call me Tom.
My connection with Africa began through years of travelling across the continent.
I later spent more than twelve years managing safari camps and lodges while supporting conservation initiatives including beekeeping and tree-planting projects.
Having travelled extensively throughout Eastern and Southern Africa, I developed a deep appreciation for authentic wilderness experiences and the conservation-focused approach of the Porini Camps.
I am originally from Belgium and now based in Spain, though my heart has always remained in Africa.

FAQs — Ngaga Lodge
Ngaga Lodge is located in the Ndzehi Forest on the western boundary of Odzala-Kokoua National Park in the Republic of the Congo. The lodge is surrounded by equatorial rainforest and lies within the home ranges of several groups of Western Lowland Gorillas.
Ngaga Lodge is best known for Western Lowland Gorilla tracking. Guests can also encounter other rainforest wildlife, including primates and birds, during guided forest walks, night activities and other excursions.
Yes. Ngaga Lodge is located within the overlapping home ranges of several Western Lowland Gorilla groups, three of which are habituated. Gorilla tracking is conducted on foot with experienced guides and trackers, with small groups limited to a maximum of four guests per tracking expedition.
Ngaga was originally established as a centre for primate research and a pilot gorilla tourism project. A permanent team of researchers and trackers continues to work with the habituated gorilla families in the forest around the lodge.
Ngaga Lodge is reached by light aircraft from Brazzaville to Mboko Airstrip, followed by an approximately two-hour drive on dirt roads through savanna and rainforest, passing the village of Mbomo.
Activities at Ngaga Lodge include Western Lowland Gorilla tracking, guided forest walks, night walks and night drives, wildlife and birding, village visits subject to availability, and sundowners.
Ngaga Lodge has six raised forest chalets, hand-built in the local style. Each chalet has an en-suite bathroom, screened windows, a mosquito net, ceiling fan and private outdoor viewing space.
Ngaga Lodge is suitable for guests aged 16 and over. Guests should also be able to walk unassisted at a normal pace for more than 8 kilometres a day and for at least two hours at a time, as gorilla tracking and forest activities take place over uneven terrain.
