Jambo, I’m Tommy Mees, most people call me Tom.
My connection with Africa began through years of travelling across the continent.
I later spent more than twelve years managing safari camps and lodges while supporting conservation initiatives including beekeeping and tree-planting projects.
Having travelled extensively throughout Eastern and Southern Africa, I developed a deep appreciation for authentic wilderness experiences and the conservation-focused approach of the Porini Camps.
I am originally from Belgium and now based in Spain, though my heart has always remained in Africa.

Ngaga Lodge is the main base for Western Lowland Gorilla tracking and is located in the rainforest near habituated gorilla groups. Lango Lodge overlooks a baï, an open forest clearing that attracts wildlife, while Mboko Lodge is positioned where rainforest, savannah and river habitats meet. The best lodge for you depends on your interests and the experiences you would most like to include.
Ngaga Lodge is the lodge most closely associated with Western Lowland Gorilla tracking in Odzala-Kokoua National Park. It provides access to habituated gorilla groups in the surrounding rainforest, making it the natural choice for travellers whose main priority is a gorilla trekking experience.
Yes. Staying at more than one lodge is an excellent way to experience the different habitats and wildlife of Odzala-Kokoua National Park. Combining Ngaga Lodge, Lango Lodge and Mboko Lodge can provide a broader experience, from gorilla tracking and rainforest exploration to wildlife viewing around baïs, rivers and more open habitats.
Odzala-Kokoua National Park is home to Western Lowland Gorillas, chimpanzees, forest elephants, forest buffalo, spotted hyena and bongo, as well as a remarkable diversity of birdlife. The wildlife you encounter varies between the different habitats around each lodge. Lango's baï, for example, can provide opportunities to observe wildlife gathering in an open forest clearing, while the rainforest around Ngaga offers opportunities to encounter gorillas and other forest species.
Activities vary by lodge and itinerary but can include Western Lowland Gorilla tracking, guided rainforest walks, wildlife viewing, birdwatching, kayaking and exploring the park's baïs and wetlands. Staying at different lodges allows you to experience a wider range of habitats and activities within Odzala-Kokoua National Park.
Yes. The Republic of the Congo offers a very different safari experience from the open savannah landscapes of East and Southern Africa, but the lodges provide comfortable bases from which to explore the rainforest with experienced guides. Because the destination is remote and logistics are more complex than on some traditional safaris, we arrange the flights, transfers, accommodation and activities as part of a carefully planned itinerary.
The best lodge depends on what you most want to experience. Choose Ngaga Lodge if Western Lowland Gorilla tracking is your priority, Lango Lodge if you are particularly interested in wildlife around a forest baï, or Mboko Lodge if you want to experience a combination of rainforest, savannah and river habitats. Many itineraries combine two or more lodges to give you a broader experience of Odzala-Kokoua National Park."
