- Ol Kinyei Conservancy was the first community
conservancy of it’s kind set up in 2005 and every tent pays to secure 700 acres with the vehicles being limited to no more than 1 vehicle to 1400 acres.
Camp is staffed by members of the local Maasai community, providing employment and training.
Guests contribute directly to conservation and community initiatives through the 100% donor-funded Wildlife Habitat Trust.
Every stay funds land lease payments that supports wildlife and habitat conservation.
Tucked away in the pristine wilderness of Kenya’s Masai Mara ecosystem, the Porini Ol Kinyei Safari Cottages offer a “home away from home” in one of the most celebrated wildlife destinations in the world. Located in the award-winning 18,700-acre Ol Kinyei Conservancy—the only IUCN Green List Protected area in the Mara—the cottages provide guests with an intimate and exclusive base from which to experience the magic of the African bush.
Perched on a hillside with sweeping views over open plains and a nearby wildlife-rich dam, the four beautifully designed cottages combine modern comfort with thoughtful eco-conscious design. Each cottage features four spacious bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a private kitchen and chef, and elegant shared spaces including a dining area, bar, lounge with fireplace, and a media room ideal for children, remote working, or simply relaxing after a day on safari. With an open design that integrates seamlessly into the landscape, the cottages are built with sustainability in mind, ensuring minimal environmental impact while offering maximum comfort.
Guests enjoy private or exclusive use of their cottage, making it perfect for families, small groups, or friends traveling together. Outside, an al fresco dining area and fire pit invite you to gather for sundowners as the sun dips behind the savannah—often to the soundtrack of elephants trumpeting at the dam below or lions calling in the distance.
Staying at Porini Ol Kinyei Safari Cottages means privileged access to a private conservancy brimming with wildlife and free from crowds. With only Porini vehicles allowed, guests benefit from an unhurried and immersive safari experience guided by expert Maasai guides and spotters. Shared or exclusive game drives (max six guests per vehicle for window seats), guided nature walks, birdwatching, and even night drives ensure that every moment offers a chance to witness Africa’s incredible biodiversity up close—from two resident lion prides and majestic elephants to cheetahs, leopards, giraffes, and the Loita wildebeest that calve here each January and February.
Porini’s commitment to responsible tourism is woven into every aspect of the cottages. The structures are solar-powered, gold eco-rated, and built using environmentally sensitive materials. So light is the ecological footprint that, if removed, the cottages would leave no trace after a few months of rain. Every stay directly supports conservation through the Wildlife Habitat Trust, with 100% of donations funding vital community and environmental initiatives such as education, healthcare, and youth employment programs.
Rooted in partnership with local Maasai landowners, Porini also empowers communities by providing employment, paying fair land leases, and supporting development. Guests are invited to engage meaningfully through cultural visits to nearby villages or schools, fostering mutual understanding and contributing to long-term conservation success.

Our Porini Camps in the Mara are adjacent to the reserve in exceptionally rich wildlife areas where tourism density is controlled and deliberately kept very low (1 guest tent to 700 acres) and as such there is no need to visit the Mara National Reserve to view lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, buffalo, giraffe, hippo etc. Stays in our camps in the conservancies also include extra activities like night game drives, guided bush walks, bush meals and sundowners. However, should guests wish to include a visit to the reserve this can be pre-booked with the additional park entry charge applicable (contact us for prices). As the park entry tickets for the reserve must be booked and paid for in advance, this option needs to be confirmed at time of booking.
