Tucked away in the pristine wilderness of Kenya’s Masai Mara ecosystem, the Porini Ol Kinyei Safari Cottages offer a “home away from home” in one of the most celebrated wildlife destinations in the world. Located in the award-winning 18,700-acre Ol Kinyei Conservancy—the only IUCN Green List Protected area in the Mara—the cottages provide guests with an intimate and exclusive base from which to experience the magic of the African bush.

Perched on a hillside with sweeping views over open plains and a nearby wildlife-rich dam, the four beautifully designed cottages combine modern comfort with thoughtful eco-conscious design. Each cottage features four spacious bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a private kitchen and chef, and elegant shared spaces including a dining area, bar, lounge with fireplace, and a media room ideal for children, remote working, or simply relaxing after a day on safari. Our Porini Camps in the Mara are adjacent to the reserve in exceptionally rich wildlife areas where tourism density is controlled and deliberately kept very low (1 guest tent to 700 acres) and as such there is no need to visit the Mara National Reserve to view lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, buffalo, giraffe, hippo etc. Stays in our camps in the conservancies also include extra activities like night game drives, guided bush walks, bush meals and sundowners. However, should guests wish to include a visit to the reserve this can be pre-booked with the additional park entry charge applicable (contact us for prices). As the park entry tickets for the reserve must be booked and paid for in advance, this option needs to be confirmed at time of booking.

Day 1

10am flight from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to the Mara. Porini Safari Cottages staff will meet you at the airstrip and transfer you to the Cottages. After lunch take an afternoon game drive in Ol Kinyei Conservancy, stopping at a scenic point for a sundowner. Dinner and overnight.

Day 2

Morning and evening game drives in the conservancy land surrounding the cottages. (Or for those guests who wish to have a visit to the Mara Reserve: after an early breakfast drive into the Reserve for the full morning and a picnic lunch in the Reserve returning to camp later in the afternoon. Extra reserve fees to be charged) In the evening, head out for a “Sundowner” within Ol Kinyei Conservancy and then continue back to the cottages on a night game drive looking for nocturnal animals. Dinner and overnight.

Day 3

Take an early morning walk in the Ol Kinyei Conservancy escorted by Maasai warriors and return for breakfast. Transfer to the airstrip and fly back to Nairobi (arriving around 12.15pm).

Personally this was my first safari and OMG what an experience!!! I can’t begin to express how amazing the entire trip was. The cottages were lovely and beautiful with such an amazing view of the landscape. The Masai who have a vested interest in the land and the camps are such lovely people — they helped make the trip as special as it was. Their knowledge of the flora and fauna was second to none! We were welcomed and treated with open arms and we became very close with all who worked at the camps to the point tears were shed between all when we left. The outings were excellent and the raw beauty of the land and nature was second to none. The variety of animals seen was impressive. We went on both day and night time game drives and the last night of the trip was topped by watching a live kill of a wildabeast being taken down by lions. I just can’t say enough about the whole experience.

I don’t know what I was expecting about this place, but my memories of it are of near perfection in terms of the amazing location, the very comfortable rooms, the glorious creations from the chef’s daily, and the genuine world class hospitality of the staff. The adventures we had here will never be forgotten, and while this level of comfort would not be necessary for that to be true, it certainly made it easier for a group of weary travelers to be fully present and taken in the wonders of the Mara.

An incredible stay, we are so grateful to have found the Porini Cottages. Meals are delicious, offerings are plentiful and cater to every dietary restriction, the rooms are lovely and large with indoor and outdoor showers, the staff are gracious and their attention to detail is humbling, the guides are so knowledgeable - of the land, the culture, and the flora and fauna. It felt like we had the bush to ourselves, us and an astonishing amount of animals. I recommend a walking safari, a visit to a village, take advantage of the breadth of what they have to offer, Staying at this conservancy supports and sustains the Maasai in such a thoughtful and thorough way, so that land, animals and culture are valued and preserved.

My stay at Porini Ol Kinyei Safari Cottages was nothing short of magical. The location is absolutely incredible—tucked away in a beautiful, private conservancy with breathtaking views and a real sense of exclusivity and connection to nature. From the moment I arrived, I was surrounded by spectacular wildlife. Unforgettable sightings during expertly guided game drives—lions, elephants, giraffes—you name it. It felt like my own private slice of the wild. The cottages themselves are charming, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed, making them perfect for families or groups of friends traveling together. There’s plenty of space and privacy, yet you're always close enough to share meals and stories of the day’s adventures. And the staff—simply fabulous. Warm, welcoming, knowledgeable, and attentive in all the right ways. They made me feel right at home while delivering the kind of service that makes a trip truly unforgettable. It was incredibly hard to leave. If you're looking for an authentic safari experience with comfort, stunning wildlife, and amazing people, Porini Ol Kinyei is the place. Am already dreaming of my return!

Superb experience. The overall quality of the offering was great. Staff and excellent. Food was brilliant. I would advise you to combine with a trip to the main park (Masai Mara). Whilst the conservancy is rich in wildlife life, it's difficult to spot leopards and cheetahs.

We stayed at the cottages for 4 nights at the beginning of September. I cannot fault a single thing about our stay. The staff were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble. The celebratory song/dance and they gave us at dinner was very special (it was our anniversary). The rooms were beautiful and had everything we needed. Evans the chef did a great job with the food, there was always plenty of selection and lots of it. Finally our guides, Bill and Eveline, were fantastic. Our Safari experience was immense and surpassed my expectations. I would definitely recommend Porini to anyone thinking about a safari.
