Great Experience
Robert S
Gamewatchers team organized and delivered a wonderful safari for our family. Wayne was responsive and gave great advice leading up to the trip and the team on the ground was first rate. It is hard to find the right company to narrow in on the right price and pacing -- they did it very well.
An epic vacation!

Wow, what a trip! I lived in Africa for 8 years and have gone on many safaris in numerous African countries, but my recent trip with Gamewatchers to their Porini Camp in a conservancy outside the Masai Mara was by far the best. Great service, great animal watching, great facilities, and great staff. My family of four traveled with five other families- 18 of us in total- and had an absolutely incredible experience. I can not recommend Gamewatchers and Porini Camps more highly.
Trip of a lifetime
Patrick T
This was a trip taken among 5 families —18 people in total — with children ranging between 15 to 18 years of age. Personally this was my first safari and OMG what an experience!!! I can’t begin to express how amazing the entire trip was.
Fantastic Stay
Inamd
The entire organization is great - they are very organized, professional and responsive. Starting from the booking process all the way through to the meet and greet at the airports and airstrips - they are professionals. They managed to ensure that our trip went off smoothly when so many things could have gone wrong.

FAQs Kenya Family safari holidays

Is Kenya a good destination for a family safari?

Yes. Kenya is one of the best destinations for family safaris, offering excellent wildlife viewing, experienced guides, high safety standards, and camps that are well set up for travelling with children of different ages.

What is the best age for children on a Kenya safari?

Children of all ages can enjoy a safari in Kenya. Many camps welcome children from around 6 years old, while others offer tailored activities for younger children and teenagers. We help match families to the most suitable camps based on age and interests.

Are Kenya family safaris safe for children?

Yes. Family-friendly camps operate in secure environments with trained staff, clear safety procedures, and guides experienced in working with children. Activities are carefully supervised and adapted to suit different age groups.

I’m not sure of all the necessary precautions to take before heading out on a Kenya family safari. Can you help me with this?

Yes. Our specialists will tell you everything you need to know and do before committing to a family safari in Kenya with us. Including advice on the vaccinations, travel insurance, visas and more. Once you’re on the ground, we’ll take care of everything domestic, so you won’t have to worry about a thing.

You can also visit our travel information page for travel information for your Kenya family safari.

What activities are available for children on safari?

Children can enjoy hands-on activities such as wildlife tracking, nature walks, bush skills, cultural visits, and conservation-focused experiences. Older children and teenagers may take part in guided walks, species identification, and bushcraft skills.

Is there Wi-Fi or phone signal if we need to stay connected?

There is phone signal in most camps and lodges in Kenya and limited Wi-Fi.

And while many guests will enjoy the chance to disconnect, there is still enough connectivity to stay in touch if needed.

How is the food, and do you cater for picky eaters or special diets?

Most camps & lodges across Kenya are fully able to cater for family members who are vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free.

They can also provide for other dietary needs with advance notice including simple meals for toddlers, young children or specific dietary plans for elderly relatives.

What wildlife will we see? Can we see the Big Five?

This depends on what you want to see.

Many locations in Kenya offer excellent wildlife viewing year-round, with dry seasons often preferred for game viewing and green seasons offering fewer crowds and lush landscapes.

The Big Five can also be found in Kenya, so it is possible to plan an itinerary to view the Big Five.

Speak to one of our safari specialists who will help you to plan your safari just as you'd like it.

What’s included on your Kenya family-friendly safari holidays?

Almost everything your family will need!
At a glance, here are some of the key things we can offer:

  • Game drives (with dedicated 4x4 vehicles, not crowded vans).
  • Night drives in some locations (a magical experience for older children and teens).
  • Guided walks in some locations (safe, educational lessons from local guides).
  • All meals and drinks at selected camps/lodges.
  • Park & Conservancy fees (no surprise costs).
  • Internal flights and airstrip transfers (seamless transfer from plane to camp).

We also arrange for a representative to meet you on arrival into Nairobi and arrange all the internal flights and hotel nights on your behalf, reducing your travel planning stress.

All you need to do is book your international flights and we take care of the rest!

How long is a typical family safari, and is it easy to add a beach stay?

We recommend a safari duration of 7 to 10 nights to give your family enough time to settle in, experience two or three national parks or conservancies without rushing, and minimise travel fatigue for both children and elderly relatives.

Yes, it is very easy to add a beach resort stay afterwards. This is a perfect, relaxing transition after the early mornings and excitement of the bush, allowing everyone to decompress and enjoy a few days of effortless relaxation before returning home.

We can arrange internal flights and hotel nights on your behalf.
