Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort

Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort is located on the shores of Lake Naivasha, On the floor or the Rift Valley.  Lake Naivasha is one of  the two fresh water lakes of the Rift Valley  in Kenya, the other being Lake Baringo.  The lake measures approximately 177sq kms in size and is an ornithologists delight with an impressive list of bird species. Lake Naivasha is unusual in having no known outlet, normally a prerequisite for a freshwater lake!

Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort is set in 120 acres of grassland, 1900 feet above sea level and studded with Acacia bushes and trees. The resort has a resident Giraffe,  as well as waterbucks, vervet monkey and colobus monkeys, it is also common to spot hippos at night as when they leave the lake and come to feed on the grass inside he lodge compound. Naivasha is approximately 125kms from Nairobi – just over an hour by road. The flying time from Nairobi to the nearby Loldia Airstrip is 45 minutes. The Lodge blends in perfectly with its natural surroundings and has an innovative and artistic design.

Facilities, activities and amenities include; Bird watching, board games,  swimming pool, conference hall, gift shop, laundry, nature walk, outdoor dining hall,  on request at a cost – sundowners, horse-riding, fishing, water sports, cycling and nature trails, bird walks, boat trips and  day trips to nearby Crescent Island, Elsemere and Hells Gate National Park..

Accommodation

Lake Naivasha Sopa has a  total of  84 rooms.  The 84 rooms are spread in 21 double-storied cottages; Each cottage has 2  rooms at the ground level and 2 at the first floor level.

All rooms have large frontal windows and have a spacious open air verandah. Room amenities include;

  • television
  • mini-bar
  • telephone
  • safe box
  • coffee and tea making facilities
  • hair dryers

2 of these rooms are suitable for the physically challenged and 6 of the 21 cottages have inter-connecting rooms (all on the ground floor). These are perfect for families  or groups of friends travelling together.

The rooms have panoramic views of the environs and the lake and are lavishly appointed, their ingeniously designed roofs gently sweep away from one side of the main building to form a crescent which leads towards the lake shore,  the exterior walls of the cottages have creepers and bougainvilleas,  excellent stone work is showcased in the rooms, wrought iron is used on banister going up to the first floor with creepers and bougainvilleas entwined around.

Food & Beverage

The Main Restaurant serves excellent food ranges between Continental, Swahili (Kenya Coast), and Mediterranean cuisines, often with a deliciously subtle fusion of all three disciplines and all prepared using fresh produce and accompanied by a selection of home baked breads, and garden fresh fruits and vegetables. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet style. For a lighter snack during the day, there is a poolside bar, located between the swimming pool and the tennis court and serves a la carte menu and has a pizzeria. The dining room also has a large, outdoor patio with umbrella-shaded tables for those who wish to enjoy an open air meal during the day.

The  main bar near the lounge, with its dark timber panel finish, cozy ambience, romantically subtle concealed lighting and high, upholstered bar stools, would have once been the perfect setting for a scene from one of Dirk Bogarde’s movies.
