The buildings are spaciously laid out and the property has well maintained flat lawns, gardens and wide open spaces. It is an ideal spot for star gazers in the African tropical nights. The property overlooks Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro and the Amboseli plain to the south and the eastern boundary is amongst the best spots in the world to watch elephant.
Accommodation
There are 80 chalet-style twin rooms at Ol Tukai Lodge, all with an uninterrupted view of the wetlands or Kilimanjaro. The rooms are built from gum trees, local river stone and slate. All rooms are comfortably furnished and have private bathrooms and individual terraces. Two rooms have been designed according to EU standards for wheelchair users.
Activities
Amboseli National Park is home to numerous animals including large populations of elephant, lion, buffalo, cheetah, leopard, giraffe and gazelle. Within the wide open spaces of Ol Tukai and the Park up to 400 varieties of birds can be spotted and Ol Tukai has a specially designed bird walk for the professional or the amateur bird watcher.
During the day you can take morning and afternoon game drives in one of the lodge’s 4×4 safari vehicles with a trained driver-guide. In between game drives you can relax by the swimming pool on a sun-bed under the shade of acacia trees or enjoy the panoramic views of the marshlands and Kilimanjaro while you sip a drink at the open-air elephant bar or read a book from the lodge’s well stocked library, or listen to a lecture on wildlife issues by speakers from the Elephant research Station.
