Visit Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel
This boutique hotel sits on the edge of the Volcanoes National Park, in the town of Kinigi. This town is at the foothill of the park entrance and headquarters. The lodge offers relaxing high end accommodation, with beautiful views of the rolling hills of the Land of a thousand hills. The Hotel is just over 80 kilometres from Kigali International Airport and with good accessibility to the entrance of the park, this hotel offers a brilliant base for exploring Volcanoes National Park – not only to check out the gorillas, but to see golden monkeys and enjoy canoeing and cycling too.
Constructed from timber, stone, and thatch, typically Rwandese in style, the property has the look of a classic safari property. The communal areas contain the lounge, restaurant, and bar area, in an informal yet elegant arrangement. In the lounge, there are several comfy sofas.
Accommodation:
Located in the grounds of the beautifully-kept gardens and the inviting pool, are 13 stone chalets and one deluxe cottage. All are very well appointed, with Self-contained bathrooms with hot water shower, Hair dryer, Flat screen TVs (all satellite channels), Mini bar, Laundry services (including dry-cleaning upon request), Security features (smoke detectors), All rooms are non-smoking rooms. The Family Suite boasts two large bedrooms, both en suite, and a shared lounge. And the VIP Cottage also has two big en-suite bedrooms, together with a living area that includes a dining table for a maximum of six persons. The décor throughout is chic yet homely, and all accommodation is set in the garden grounds. The stone cottages each have an outdoor seating with views out onto the surrounding volcanoes mountain range.
Amenities:
The main lodge has a separate bar, dining room and lounge area for guests to enjoy at all times of the day, these offer an incredible view of the Volcanoes. The lush, well-kept green garden areas surround all rooms and home a pool, a massage hut, a sauna and a steam room for those looking to completely relax. There’s also 24/7 front desk service, a fireplace and offer accessibility for disabled guests.
Activities
- Its location, on the outskirts of the national park, invites almost all guests (over 15 years) to trek and track the mountain gorillas of Rwanda and the hotel organizes long hikes through the mountain forests of the national park, with the aim of enjoying a whole hour in the company of the resident gorillas. At present, the park is home to ten habituated groups of gorillas, within over 8,000 square kilometres. Although encounters are not guaranteed, the chances of seeing one of these groups are good, not least because of the high standard of guiding on offer.
- Trekking the Golden Monkeys is another attraction the Volcanoes National Park has to offer. The hike is more an easy walk (much easier than trekking Gorillas normally) and it is a great experience to watch the Golden Monkeys jumping and climbing through the bamboo forest and during any trek you might well spot other local wildlife such as forest elephant, giant forest hog, bushbucks, warthogs, and an impressive assortment of birds!
- Canoe trip – Discover a special way to travel, soak up impressive views, watch abundant birds and look out for the otters, meet friendly communities and find just a little excitement in modern canoes. Choose a morning or afternoon start, and have a great time in the heart of the Rwandan countryside, the day before or after you visit the gorillas. Led by an experienced guide
- And Rwanda’s Africa Rising Cycling Team has a centre just a short stroll from the Hotel, where you can hire bikes and even book tours with a cycling team member. This is also a great way to explore the area!
