It’s no secret that the Maasai Mara National Reserve can get very busy, often resulting in limited space for wildlife encounters, time restrictions and shorter, rushed animal sightings. But you’ll find none of these issues at our Maasai Mara Conservancy Camps.
We have three conservancies, the Ol Kinyei , Mara Ripoi , Olare Motorogi as well as access to Mara Naboisho, that are part of the Greater Maasai Mara ecosystem and all of its wonderful wildlife, though they sit just outside the official boundaries of the Maasai Mara National Reserve.
And at these conservancies, the rules are different. They are more ethical, more natural, more exclusive. Here, we invite you to journey with us on a Maasai Mara camping safari situated deep in the wilderness, where it feels like the Continent is almost entirely yours to experience.
Only 1 tent is allowed per 700 acres in our Porini safari camps in the Maasai Mara.
…and only one tourist vehicle is allowed per 1,400 acres. Instead of arriving to find dozens of vehicles surrounding a single animal, you’re often one of only a few.
With strict limits on vehicles in private conservancies, sightings feel calm and unhurried. You’re not jostling for position. You’re simply there, watching wildlife behave as it naturally would.
And because conservancies allow off-road driving, guides can position vehicles carefully and respectfully. Meaning if you want to stay with a lion pride as they move, you can. And if the perfect sighting unfolds, there’s no pressure to leave.
In the Maasai Mara Nature Reserve, access is limited. But in private conservancies, your day can start earlier and end whenever you want. You can:
– Head out before sunrise for the best light.
– Stay out as the sun sets.
– Experience night drives and a different side of the bush.

Nestled deep within the breathtaking 18,700-acre Ol Kinyei Conservancy—one of Kenya’s most pristine and exclusive wildlife havens—Porini Mara Camp offers an authentic and immersive safari experience unlike any other. This award-winning eco-camp is situated in the heart of the Maasai Mara ecosystem, where vast open savannahs, acacia-dotted woodlands, and lush riverine forests form a dramatic backdrop for unforgettable wildlife encounters.
Porini Mara Camp is intentionally small and intimate, with just six spacious safari tents (including a dedicated family unit), ensuring a serene and uncrowded environment. Here, guests are immersed in raw nature, surrounded by the sounds of the bush and the rhythm of wildlife. Every tent secures the protection of 700 acres of conservancy land, thanks to Porini’s unique model of sustainable tourism that directly supports local Maasai communities and vital conservation efforts.
This pioneering community conservancy was the first of its kind when established in 2005. Today, it is globally recognized on the IUCN Green List of protected areas—one of only around 70 sites worldwide to earn this prestigious status.
Ol Kinyei Conservancy is home to an astonishing diversity of wildlife, including two resident lion prides, elusive leopards, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, and more. As the northernmost calving ground for the Loita wildebeest migration, it offers guests the rare chance to witness this awe-inspiring natural event each year, typically in January and February.

Where is Porini Mara Camp located?
Porini Mara Camp is located in the exclusive Ol Kinyei Conservancy within the Maasai Mara ecosystem, offering private access to over 18,000 acres of protected wilderness.
Ol Kinyei Conservancy is recognised on the prestigious IUCN Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas, one of only 3 sites in Kenya and about 97 sites worldwide.
Do you have camps located within the Maasai Mara Game Reserve?
Yes and no. We can accommodate you in lodges and other non-Porini Camps within the Reserve if that’s what you’re interested in. Though please note that there are a lot more rules and people in the Reserve — we promise you’ll get a lot more out of your experience at one of our Porini Camps.
Our Porini Camps are technically outside of the Reserve but still within the Greater Maasai Mara ecosystem.
For the best of both worlds, we can drive you into the Reserve, returning you to a Porini Camp at the end of the day. This is our main offering with the Great Migration Safaris that you can also book with us.
What makes Porini Mara Camp different from staying in the Mara Reserve?
Unlike camps in the National Mara Reserve, Porini Mara Camp is in a private conservancy with very low vehicle numbers, allowing for quieter, more personal wildlife encounters and activities such as night drives and guided walks.

How many tents are at Porini Mara Camp?
The camp has just six guest tents, including a family unit, ensuring an intimate and exclusive safari experience.
What wildlife can be seen at Porini Mara Camp?
Guests can see lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, giraffes and a wide variety of plains game, with particularly strong big cat sightings in Ol Kinyei Conservancy.
Is Porini Mara Camp good for seeing the wildebeest migration?
Yes, Ol Kinyei Conservancy is part of the Maasai Mara Eco-system and we can arrange for day trip into the National Park during the annual migration season if our guests request it.
Ol Kinyei Conservancy is also part of the Loita wildebeest migration route, with calving season typically occurring between January and March, offering a quieter and more exclusive migration experience.
What safari activities are included at Porini Mara Camp?
Activities include day and night game drives in Ol Kinyei conservancy’s unspoiled terrain, as well as game drives extending into the neighbouring Naboisho Conservancy, guided nature walks, bush meals, sundowners and optional visits to the Maasai Mara Reserve.

Yes, the camp is ideal for honeymooners seeking privacy, authentic experiences and time in nature, with intimate accommodation and flexible safari activities.

Day 1
10am flight from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to the Mara. Porini Mara Camp staff will meet you at the airstrip and transfer you to camp. After lunch take an afternoon game drive in Ol Kinyei Conservancy, stopping at a scenic point for a sundowner. Dinner and overnight at camp.
Day 2
Morning and evening game drives in the conservancy land surrounding the camp. (Or for those guests who wish to have a visit to the Mara Reserve: after an early breakfast drive into the Reserve for the full morning and a picnic lunch in the Reserve returning to camp later in the afternoon. Extra reserve fees applicable) In the evening, head out for a “Sundowner” within Ol Kinyei Conservancy and then continue back to camp on a night game drive looking for nocturnal animals. Dinner and overnight at camp.
Day 3
Take an early morning walk in the Conservancy escorted by Maasai warriors and return for breakfast. Transfer to the airstrip and fly back to Nairobi (arriving around 12.15pm).
Porini Mara Camp can also be combined with one or more of the other Porini Camps as part of a longer safari – see our recommended safaris for itineraries and prices.
Alternatively, opt to extend your stay for an additional night at Porini Mara Camp.
