Mara Naboisho Conservancy, Maasai Mara

The Mara Naboisho Conservancy spans over 50,000 acres in Kenya’s Greater Mara ecosystem, bordering the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Olare Motorogi, and Ol Kinyei Conservancies. Aptly named Naboisho—meaning “coming together” in Maa—it represents a pioneering collaboration between the Maasai community, conservationists, and responsible tourism partners to protect wildlife while supporting local livelihoods.

Naboisho is now the second largest conservancy in the Mara region and boasts one of the highest wildlife densities in Africa, surpassing even the adjacent National Reserve. Around 100 lions roam its plains, making it one of the best places in Kenya for big cat sightings. The conservancy also shelters elephants, giraffes, wildebeest, zebra, and endangered species like African wild dogs. During seasonal movements, Naboisho serves as a vital migration corridor linking the Maasai Mara and the Loita Plains.

With just a few safari camps sited within the conservancy, Naboisho offers a truly exclusive and low-impact safari experience. Visitor numbers are intentionally limited, allowing guests to explore thousands of acres of pristine wilderness with minimal disturbance—ideal for photography, guided walks, and night drives in a peaceful, uncrowded environment. While Porini Mara Camp and Porini Safari Cottages are located in the neighbouring Ol Kinyei Conservancy, they also have exclusive permission to conduct game drives within Naboisho, ensuring guests enjoy access to its exceptional wildlife and diverse habitats.

Beyond its natural beauty, the conservancy stands as a model of community-led conservation. More than 500 Maasai landowners lease their land to the project, receiving a steady income and employment opportunities while maintaining traditional stewardship of the land. This sustainable partnership ensures that both people and wildlife thrive—protecting a vital part of Kenya’s natural heritage for generations to come.
