Staying in some of Namibia’s finest locations, our Sands & Safari flying tour offers you the opportunity to maximise your time spent in each location due to traveling by air.  Flying over this wondrous country offers a breath taking experience with a birds eye view over dramatic and beautiful landscapes.

Accommodation is in upmarket properties with all activities included, enabling you to fully immerse yourself in the experience of this 8 day treasure of a tour.

Departing from the airport in Windhoek, your first flight takes you West to the Namib Desert for 2 nights to Kulala Desert Lodge. You will then fly North to Damaraland, which will be your home for the next 2 nights,  amongst a vast and unspoilt wilderness, between the Ugab and Huab Rivers.  Your next flight is heading West to Etosha National Park staying on the Ongava Reserve, with game drives in open-topped safari vehicles to enhance your wildlife viewing and safari experience.  Your final flight back to Windhoek completes your journey.

Summary:

• 2 nights at Kulala Desert Lodge (Fully Inclusive)

Kulala Desert Lodge is situated on the 210 km² private Kulala Wilderness Reserve, south of Sesriem and is situated at the foot of the majestic Sossusvlei Dunes and is the closest location to Sossusvlei (via a private gate exclusive to Wilderness vehicles). The setting and proximity to the red desert dunes, literally only a few steps away, make this lodge an ideal desert destination.

• 2 nights at Mowani Mountain Camp (Full Board + Activities)

Mowani Mountain Camp offers stunning accommodation & breath-taking scenery with magnificent desert views. Guests can explore this beautiful region with nature drives, walks, local excursions to view historic rock art or simply relax and enjoy the natural surroundings.

• 3 nights at Ongava Lodge (Fully Inclusive)

Ongava Lodge is a luxury safari lodge, located on top of a hill which offers a beautiful outlook over the private Ongava Reserve and overlooks a well-visited waterhole and the scenery beyond.

ITINERARY

DAY ONE  – WINDHOEK – SOSSUSVLEI (Geluk Airstrip)
Approximate flight time 1hr 10mins
Depart Windhoek for the short flight to Geluk Airstrip where you will be met on arrival and transferred to Kulala Desert Lodge.  Settle into your thatched/canvas chalet or Kulala. (Kulala in ‘Oshiwambo’ means ‘to sleep’.)  before departing on a late afternoon guided nature drive in the 37 000-hectare private Kulala Wilderness Reserve, offering exclusive wildlife-viewing opportunities which include the likes of gemsbok (oryx), bat-eared fox, brown hyaena and birdlife. Enjoy a sundowner stop, before you head back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY TWO  – SOSSUSVLEI
First thing this morning, tea, coffee and rusks are served at the lodge before departing  for the dunes at Sossusvlei via the exclusive-use gate from Wilderness Kulula Desert Lodge which gives you early access to Sossusvlei, one of the most remarkable landscapes on Earth. After an active morning in the dunes, enjoy a brunch breakfast before returning to the lodge. Spend the afternoon relaxing by the pool or enjoying some of the other activities on offer here.  After dinner, if weather permitting, an early night is recommended as this area is ideal for sleep-outs under the extraordinarily clear Namibian night sky.  

Overnight Kulala Desert Lodge (Standard Room / Fully Inclusive)

DAY THREE – SOSSUSVLEI – DAMARALAND (Twyfelfontein Airstrip)
Approximate flight time 2hrs 10mins + refuelling time
Today you will fly north to Damaraland, a scenic semi-desert area, where you will be staying at Mowani Mountain Camp,  nestled amongst architectural granite boulders.  Met on arrival at Twyfelfontein Airstrip, your Driver will transfer you to camp for lunch.  In the afternoon, depart on an excursion to Twyfelfontein, Burnt Mountain & Organ Pipes Excursion. Return back to camp for dinner and overnight.

DAY FOUR – DAMARALAND
Today you have the choice of joining the guided excursions offered by the lodge (included in package price).  This is sure to be an exciting day in a very interesting area. A hot air balloon trip over the Aba-Huab Valley can also be arranged (at additional cost).

DAY FIVE/SIX/SEVEN-DAMARALAND – ONGAVA RESERVE
Approximate flight time 50mins
Flying directly into the The Ongava Reserve, on the southern border of Etosha near the Andersson Gate, where you will spend the next three nights on your wildlife safari. This afternoon you can join a guided game drive or just relax and enjoy your surroundings.

The next two days can be spent on guided game drives and walks around Etosha & the Ongava Reserve. Having an experienced guide really enhances game viewing and with any luck you should really rack up the sightings. Etosha is Namibia’s premier game viewing destination, large herds of plains game concentrate around the waterholes in the dry season and makes for exciting game viewing. Species that can be seen year round include elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, springbok, oryx, kudu and the diminutive Damara dik-dik. Birdlife is also good with ostrich and raptors in abundance. Local specials include the short-toed rockthrush, Haulaubs francolin, rockrunner, Ruppells parrot, white-tailed shrike and chestnut weaver.

Ongava Game reserve is one of the few private game reserves in Southern Africa where you have a chance of seeing both black and white Rhino. The reserve also has a good population of lion, eland, mountain zebra, black faced impala and a number of other antelope species.

DAY EIGHT

Leaving Ongava Reserve today to fly back to Windhoek to connect onto your onward destination or additionally we can arrange accommodation in Windhoek.

Items such as bleach, solvents, corrosives such as acids, flammable or gaseous aerosols, camping gas, poisons, infectious items in any baggage item.
  • The Charter company accepts no responsibility for any delays or additional costs caused by unforeseen circumstances, deviations or delays due to weather conditions, safety precautions or mechanical breakdowns or any other cause whatsoever.  The price is based on direct routes except where indicated otherwise. Any diversions or additional flying will therefore be charged extra.
  • Flight details, transfer information, accommodation information, passenger’s weights and nationality are required when confirming the flights.
  • As per the Namibian Civil Aviation Regulations, the charter company is only licensed to operate between sunrise and sunset.
  • All routes & flights are WEATHER PERMITTED.

  • Industry Standard Weights apply with 18 kg soft luggage including hand luggage & camera equipment per person inclusive hand luggage and cameras – ideal bag indicated below.
