KATO - Kenya Association of Tour Operators

Gamewatchers Safaris is a member of the Kenya Association of Tour Operators (KATO).

KATO members observe a strict code of conduct designed to ensure that they trade honestly and professionally at all times. The Association also expects members to comply with the spirit of Kenya's tourist reputation, offering high quality service, comfort, safety and value to all clients. Above all KATO is committed to the true principles of eco-tourism, promoting low impact, environmentally sensitive operations to maximize visitors' enjoyment, understanding, awareness of wildlife and landscapes, and due respect to local communities and their cultures.

The full code is designed and monitored by the Ethics and Standards Sub-committee and endorsed by KATO's Executive Committee. It also offers a system of redress for individual travelers ensuring that cases of serious dissatisfaction with a member's services can be formally aired and addressed.

The overall goal is to uphold the integrity of Kenya's tour industry. Members must offer clear, precise and useful information about the country and tour, backed up by good standards of service, equipment and facilities and a commitment to informing and entertaining visitors to Kenya.

KATO BONDED: KATO has now introduced a Bonding Scheme for its members. This is designed to give assurance to visitors about the financial security of deposits paid should a tour firm go into liquidation before delivering the contracted services. Several worldwide destinations have in place Bonding Schemes to address these concerns and the KATO Bond is the second such scheme in the whole of Africa. The Bonding Scheme is now fully in place and is backed by a leading Insurance company.Under the provision of the Bond, the Insurance Company will, during the period of guarantee, indemnify any direct monetary loss suffered by a client of the KATO Member arising from unrendered services in the event of the company becoming insolvent. The fully bonded KATO members can display the “KATO Bonded” logo on their websites and promotional materials in the same way that airlines and tour operators in UK carry the IATA and ATOL seals. The logo shows the respective membership number of the bonded KATO member to ensure that the logo is displayed only by bonafide members such as Gamewatchers Safaris which has been a long-standing member of KATO.
