DESIGN & DÉCOR

Lengishu is built entirely of sustainable materials. The stones have been excavated from the site itself, sourced when the foundations were laid. The wooden beams and panels are made of teak and gum poles from Kenya, the walls are rammed earth and the floors are stone and wood. This unique family home was built to blend into its surroundings.

The main house is central to the design with a large entrance hall leading to a study and a vaulted sitting and dining room which is warmed by two large fireplaces with glorious views. A covered veranda with a pizza oven allows for outdoor luncheons or evening entertaining. An art room with floor to ceiling windows and inspirational views is nestled below.

All rooms and main house look over the valley below, across to Lewa Wildlife Conservancy and deep into the Northern Frontier.

ACCOMMODATION

Lengishu is an exclusive safari house, ideal for families or a group of friends, with a superb hillside setting in northern Kenya, and wonderful views to the north over the Borana Conservancy to Northern Frontier District and the Mathews Ranges in the far distance

Lengishu is reserved for exclusive use, sleeping up to twelve guests in six unique bedrooms with the option of guide or children’s accommodation in the art room which has its own bathroom. The Master bedroom and Room 1 stand away from the main house and have double beds and luxurious bathrooms A further two family cottages are set into the hillside below.

The Master Bedroom has it’s own sitting room and a large walk-in wardrobe. The two family cottages sleep four in each. Two double or twin bedrooms are separated by private sitting and dining rooms with large fireplaces and verandas.

Master and Room One have impressive fireplaces too within the bedroom. The cottages have fireplaces in the sitting and dining room and cosy wood-burning stoves in the bedrooms, these also have small kitchens for tea and cold drinks.

All rooms have ample clothes hanging and storage space, all rooms have en-suite bathrooms with walk in showers and free standing, roll top copper baths.

All cottages have loos with views. Each room has an unobstructed view of the valley below, guaranteeing privacy.

AMENITIES & DINNING

• Laundry, house wines, beers and spirits are included.
• A U-shaped pool, with views to the West, is surrounded by a lunch pavilion,
• A gym and a games room with a sundowner bar. The pool area has a further indoor dining room facilitated by a smaller, secondary kitchen.
• The pool house, gym and games room overlook Borana Conservancy with uninterrupted sunset views, complete with a changing room and an outdoor shower.
• Lengishu has Wifi connection and teh study has a TV.
• There is a full sound system throughout.
• A regulation pétanque pitch is found between the pool and Room One, surrounded by candelabra trees.
• Lengishu is completely run on solar for both electricity and hot water. There is a substantial backup generator used in the cloudier months if necessary.

ACTIVITIES

Game drives, bush walks, sundowner excursions and bush meals are available. Along with “behind the scenes of conservation” activities.
Borana Conservancy is fantastic horse riding country and two sets of stables cater for all riding abilities.

Borana Conservancy has excellent wildlife including lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and healthy numbers of black and white rhino, and a number of species unique to northern Kenya such as Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Beisa oryx and Somali ostrich. There is no fence between the Lewa and Borana conservancies, allowing the wildlife to move freely across 93,000 acres, and day and night game drives, walking safaris and meals in the bush are among the activities on offer at Lengishu. Conservation is a key part of Borana Conservancy’s ethos, and a large team of rangers protects the rhino and elephant population. Guests can observe some of the constant work they do, which includes liaising with local communities. In addition, horse riding, fly fishing on Mount Kenya, bird watching, swimming, and guided walks through the Ngare Ndare Forest are available.

Community interactions with visits to local villages and schools can be arrange and offer a unique insight into the local way of life.

SEASONALITY

Lengishu is open year round.
April, May and November are the wetter months but exceptionally beautiful with wild flowers blooming across Borana Conservancy.
