Shompole Lodge is situated on the side of the Nguruman escarpment, overlooking the stunning expanse of the Great Rift Valley. Shompole Camp is positioned ideally to make the most of both an incredible view and the cool breeze. Constructed using natural occurring white quartz stone, pale thatch and other materials, and using water as a prime feature, each tented room provides a very spacious, shady oasis in this green desert environment.
With its compelling mix of rustic African design and calm, Japanese inspired interiors, The Shompole Lodge in southern Kenya represents the fashionable new face of eco-tourism. Shompole Camp is an eco-lodge located on a private conservancy overlooking sun-baked plains and a riverine forest, great ceased volcanic mountains and lush green wetlands. It is inhabited by the Loodokilani section of the Maasai people. The lodge is located near the unique lakes Natron and Magadi. Natron, named the Lake of Fire by the Masaai provides the one of the only flamingo breeding habitats in Africa.
Note: Shompole Lodge was closed down until further notice in September 2011 pending an agreement with the local community on its future as well as that of the Shompole Wildlife Conservancy in which it is located.
In the meantime, Sasaab Camp in Samburu is an excellent alternative as it is a stunning property in a great location overlooking a river in a wildlife conservancy - click below for details:

Also recommended are the Porini Camps which offer a stay in authentic bush camps located in exclusive wildlife conservancies with good concentrations of animals and the luxury of having wilderness almost to yourself as no minivans or outside vehicles are permitted.
