The Madagascar Adventurer itinerary is a 11-day immersive journey through one of the world’s most ecologically unique destinations, combining remote rainforest exploration with coastal luxury. The adventure begins in Antananarivo before heading to the wild northeast, where the Masoala Peninsula offers an extraordinary introduction to Madagascar’s biodiversity. Guests explore dense rainforest, mangroves, and coastal ecosystems, with opportunities to encounter endemic wildlife including lemurs, chameleons, and rare bird species.
From Masoala, the journey continues by air and boat before transitioning to the secluded Anjajavy Peninsula on the northwest coast. This private reserve blends dry deciduous forest, mangroves, limestone tsingy formations, and pristine beaches. Wildlife encounters include sifakas, nocturnal lemurs, and rich birdlife, complemented by guided walks and coastal relaxation.

Arrival in Antananarivo

Day 1 - Antananarivo
Upon your arrival in Madagascar, you will be met at the arrival hall after you have completed the entry and luggage collection procedures. Please keep an eye out for a sign with your name on it after you exit the restricted area with your luggage. You will then be escorted to your private vehicle for your transfer to the Novotel, where you will overnight.
Day 2: Antananarivo – Maroantsetra
Approximate flight time 1.5 hours
Transfer from your hotel to the airport, where you are welcomed by your pilot at the charter company’s reception.
After flight time of 1.5hours, you will be welcomed and transferred by boat across the Antongil Bay to the Masoala Forest Lodge. It will last a couple of hours with the possibility to meet dolphins or whales depending on the season.
In the afternoon, you are free to explore the beaches and the coastal forest around the lodge, before a guided walk in the forest to spot the Eulemur Albifrons lemurs also known as the White-fronted Brown Lemur.
Back to the lodge for a sundowner and dinner.
Overnight at Masoala Forest Lodge (Dinner, Breakfast, Lunch and Activities)
Day 3: Masoala National Park
Awaken early for coffee and breakfast on the sea deck before setting off on the day’s adventure.
After short briefing with the guide, you head off on a guided walk in the primary forest to look for the Red- ruffed Lemurs, the Dwarf chameleons and other endemic fauna and flora of the area. Returning back to lodge to freshen up for lunch.
The afternoon will be devoted to your preferred activities such as a snorkelling near the coral reefs or a guided sea kayak to the look-out rock at the “Secret Cove” at sunset with the opportunity to meet the Bottlenose Dolphin or the Green Turtles. Or simply just relax in a hammock underneath the beach-front palm trees.
Overnight at Masoala Forest Lodge (Dinner, Breakfast, Lunch and Activities)
Day 4: Masoala National Park
This morning, depart on a guided walk which may take a couple of hours, offering the opportunity to explore another part of the primary forest to look for birds and mammals. Visit the Tampolo Waterfall with the possibility to swim in the crystal water and relax after the mornings excursion.
Back to the lodge by a traditionnal dugout canoe in time for a tasty lunch. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure, taking time to soak up your surroundings.
This evening, you head off on a night walk in the forest to look for the nocturnal animals like the Leaf-tailed Gecko, the Dwarf or the Mouse Lemurs. By chance, you way see some Aye-Aye.

Day 5: Masoala National Park - Antananarivo
Approximate flight time 1.5 hours
Enjoy an early last breakfast on the sea deck before you board the boat for your return voyage to Maroantsetra. Enjoy the stunning view of the Masoala peninsula and, depending on the timing of the flight back, you will make a stop at Nosy Mangabe.
The Nosy Mangabe is a small island located 2km from the Maroantsetra coast. Considered as part of the Masoala National Park, it is a tropical Rainforest which shelters the endangered Aye Aye and other fauna and flora such as the Uroplatus Fimbriatus, turtles and even the Madagascar tree Boa.
After a picnic lunch on the beach, you board the boat to Maroantsetra port and transfer to the airport for the flight to Antananarivo.
You will be met on arrival at the domestic arrivals hall in Antananarivo for your transfer to the Novotel Convention & Spa.
Overnight at Novotel Hotel (Bed & Breakfast)
Day 6 - 10: Antananarivo - Anjajavy
Approximate flight time 1.5 hours
After breakfast, you will transfer to the charter terminal for your charter flight to Anjavavy for your 4 night stay at Anjajavy Le Lodge. Located near a remote fishing village on an extraordinary peninsula, Anjajavy le Lodge protects a 960 hectare Private Reserve and manages 10,000 hectare of National Protected Area which contains seven types of natural habitats. The Lodge works closely with the local population to maintain, and sometimes restore, the local Malagasy biodiversity and ecosystems as well as the cultural heritage of Anjajavy.
Anjajavy Le Lodge offers:
A dry deciduous forest made of palissandre trees, ebony trees, baobabs and other plants endemic to Madagascar
A protected Mangrove
The Tsingy, unique limestone rock formations and beautiful beaches
Nature & Wildlife, the reserve is also home of a wide variety of lemurs, reptiles and other endemic flora and fauna. Birdwatching enthusiasts may also spot water birds such as the Madagascan sacred ibis and the Madagascan flying fox.
Night Safari, which offers a thrilling experience in the natural territory of animals. A night tour of Antafiamoara could reveal some wonderful naturalistic discoveries and observations such as mouse lemurs, sportive lemurs, sleeping birds and maybe fossa. In the light of the fire you will probably not forget the incredible history of the place and local legends.
Anjajavy Village visit located on the side of the dunes, bordering a long sandy beach. It is the place of birth of the majority of the employees and suppliers of the Lodge and it shelters many infrastructures developed by Anjajavy le Lodge (such as secondary school, library and market).

Day 11: Anjajavy - Antananarivo
Approximate flight time 1.5 hours
A charter plane will transfer you back to Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar. During your approach, do not miss to look over the numerous rice fields surrounding the capital offering a great variation of green colours. On arrival you will be met at the domestic arrivals hall. Once you have collected your luggage, you will then be led to your vehicle for your private transfer to the international airport for your departing flight or we can arrange overnight accommodation in Antananarivo.

Jambo, I’m Tommy Mees, most people call me Tom.
My connection with Africa began through years of travelling across the continent.
I later spent more than twelve years managing safari camps and lodges while supporting conservation initiatives including beekeeping and tree-planting projects.
Having travelled extensively throughout Eastern and Southern Africa, I developed a deep appreciation for authentic wilderness experiences and the conservation-focused approach of the Porini Camps.
I am originally from Belgium and now based in Spain, though my heart has always remained in Africa.
