DAY ONE – ADDIS ABABA
Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by a tour representative who will transfer you to the Golden Tulip Hotel in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital city and Africa’s diplomatic capital.

DAY TWO – ADDIS ABABA – JINKA

Today after breakfast you’ll transfer to the airport for your flight to Jinka. Upon arrival you’ll meet our representative and transfer to Eco Omo Lodge.
After taking a rest at Jinka, you’ll visit the recently opened south Omo research centre and museum, which is perched on a hill overlooking the town centre and offers an attractive view over it. The anthropological museum provides a useful overview of the various cultures of south Omo.

DAY THREE – JINKA – TURMI (via Mursi)
Distance 137km – Approximate journey time 3 hours
Today after breakfast you’ll drive to Mursi villages, 70kms away. The Mursi has become a cultural symbol of the Lower Omo Valley. They are the most renowned of the Omotic – speakers, famed for their practice of inserting large clay plates behind the lower lips of their women and for their colorful dresses.
Then you’ll drive to Turmi via Dimeka and Key Afer. Turmi is the home of the Hammer who are much known for their body decoration, moonlight dance (Evangedi Dance) and bull-jumping. Bull jumping marks the rite of passage from childhood to adulthood. (Do note, bull jumping is not done every day and so, unfortunately, we can’t guarantee you will see this ceremony.)

DAY FOUR – TURMI
After having breakfast you’ll drive to the village of Kolcho and visit the Karo tribes. They are considered masters of body painting, in which they engage when preparing for a dance, feast or celebration.
Then drive back to Turmi to visit one of the smaller villages that lie outside the Hamer towns of Turmi. Incredibly neat and constructed entirely from mud, wood and thatch, one of the most striking aspects of these small villages –which typically consist of a few extended families across perhaps 10-15huts –is the total absence of non–organic or western artefacts.

DAY FIVE – TURMI – KONSO

Today after breakfast you’ll drive to Konso via Dimeke, Key Afer and Weito. Upon arrival you’ll check in to your hotel and, after taking a rest, will visit Konso village.
The Konso Cultural Landscape is a 55km2 arid property of stone walled terraces and fortified settlements in the Kondo highlands. A registered UNESCO site, it constitutes a spectacular example of a living cultural tradition stretching back 21 generations (more than 400 years) adapted to its dry hostile environment. Konso people are known for their intricately terraced hill sides, fine woven materials and the carved totems in which they decorate their graves. At Konso, visit the village of Machekie and on the way to Machekie there is the home of all Konso tribes kings, which is well worth visiting.

DAY SIX – KONSO – ARBA MINCH

After having breakfast, you’ll drive to Arba Minch and on the way take a boat trip over Lake Chamo to enjoy seeing hippos and crocodiles at a close range. Also known as “Azo-Gebeya” meaning “Crocodile Market”, and it offers one of Africa’s most impressive displays of big crocs.
Enjoy an afternoon at leisure at Haile resort.

DAY SEVEN – KONSO – ADDIS ABABA
Today after breakfast visit the home of the Dorze people at Chencha, renowned cotton weavers whose tall beehive- shaped dwellings are among the most distinctive traditional structures to be seen anywhere in Africa. The main occupations of the region are subsistence farming and weaving. The shama cloth produced around Chencha is regarded to be the finest in Ethiopia: plain white gabbi robes and brightly colour scarf- like netalas are sold along the roadside
Then fly back to Addis Ababa up on arrival transfer to The Golden Tulip Hotel.
This evening, you have the opportunity to experience a cultural evening at one of Addis Ababa Restaurants, with cultural dances and a traditional meal with a drink of Tej, a type of wine made from Honey.
