Sabuk Lodge set in a 1500 acres piece of land is home to a variety of wildlife including dik-dik, giraffe, zebra, leopard, elephant and the antelope. The property is located in the Kenya’s northern frontier district, overlooking the Laikipia Plateau, the Ewaso Nyiro River and Samburu land.

Sabuk management works closely with the community, the Laikipia Maasai who share their tribal and bush craft skills, tracking animals, pointing out the uses of the flora and fauna, teaching guests new ways of looking at the wilderness surrounding them. Sabuk gives part of night fee income to the community adjoining Sabuk land. The small in-house shop sells crafts made by the local community.

Accommodation

At Sabuk Lodge are six large en-suite, open-sided rooms (doubles or twins) plus ‘Eagle Cottage’ which consists of 2 bedrooms with a sitting room and pool. All the rooms are built of stone, wood and thatch – very much in keeping with the landscape, but also very comfortable, and with fabulous views even from the baths of most rooms! Each of the tents has a private veranda, which faces out over the river gorge 150 foot below.

There is a cosy main living area with lounge and dining room looking out on to the same awe-inspiring landscape. The food is excellent. There is a swimming pool and you can also take a refreshing dip in the river.

Highly trained chefs prepare mouth watering dishes, which will leave you craving for more. Lunch and dinner are served in the main dining hall; they can also be served out in the bush on request. Soft drinks, beer, house wines and non-luxury spirits are included in the room rates. Champagne, special wines and luxury spirits are additional.

Activities

Some of the activities you can enjoy at Sabuk Lodge are; guided camel safaris, day and night game drives, culture and safari walks, fishing, rock and artifacts hunting, bird watching, horse riding and photography. For clients spending 3 or more days this is the perfect start and finish to a camel assisted walking safari.

Walk with a professional safari guide and a team of trained Laikipiak Maasai warriors as your guides through completely deserted tracts of wilderness: no other tourists, no roads or vehicles, only wildlife and their tracks, breathtaking scenery, the sounds of the bush, just Africa.
