Porini Rhino, Rhino River and Elephant Bedroom Camps, February 2023

Porini Rhino, Rhino River and Elephant Bedroom Camps, February 2023

February 2023 | Solveig Borlaug

Our 4th safari with Gamewatchers in Kenya.

This time we chose Porini Rhino Camp in Ol Pejeta and Rhino River Camp in Meru to look for Rhinos. And we got to see quite a few of them in addition to lots of other animals and birds. Guides and staff was as usual knowledgeable and service minded for both camps.

In Ol Pejeta, a striped hyena had a den just a few hundred meters from Porini Rhino Camp. Together with our guide and spotter, we spent some quality time with two cubs.

Rhino River Camp in Meru had a lovely "jungle feel" to it and when the sun went down the frogs started to sing (loud!). In addition to the animals, I was excited to observe 4 of the 5 species of rollers that can be found in Meru.

Our last stop was Elephant Bedroom Camp in Samburu. Not a Porini camp, but it also held a high standard on guides and staff. We were hoping to see the Oryx and the Grevy Zebra, and lucky for us, there were plenty to be seen.

We would like to thank Wayne Hammond from Gamewatchers UK, who helped with the planning of this safari. And of course all the staff and guides who made us feel welcome. Gamewatchers and Porini is our go to safari company, and we will certainly travel with them again.
