My Best Safari Yet

My Best Safari Yet

October 2019 | Ann Kilbey

In Kenya again I can’t believe it’s true,
The sights sounds and smells and the people too,
So kind and so gentle, our every need supplied,
From hot water bottles to lions in a pride
Elephants and zebra and wonderful birds,
Giraffe, antelope and vast wildebeest herds
Our tents large and comfy, shower water on request,
If you go on safari this way is the best.

Breakfast al fresco by the hippo pool,
Vodka with lions when the day gets cool.
Free African massage, our backs don’t complain,
Our only surprise was the amount of rain.
Stuck in the mud, we were soon pulled out
All guests on lion-watch, ready to shout.

Safe in our beds we would listen with delight
And try and suss out the sounds of the night,
Lions call and hippos leave their pool
To munch round our tents, wow this is cool,
No need for concern, there are warriors on patrol,
Each new experience just adds to the whole.

Each day is different, no two drives the same,
Our spotters make sure we see all the game,
They even line up for the very best shot,
With cameras of course, hunters we are not.
