Etosha is the largest & most well-known National Park in Namibia and offers an incredible wildlife experience as well as a large array of birdlife. It covers an area of just over 22km2, and is home to 114 mammal species, 340 bird species (a third of which are migratory), 110 reptile species and 16 species of amphibians. Lions, Leopards, Elephants and Black Rhino can all be seen in the park.
The Etosha Salt Pan, covers approx. 4,800 sqkm’s which is 25% of the park and forms part of the Kalahari Basin, the floor of which was formed around 1000 million years ago. It is the only mass breeding ground for flamingos in Namibia , during the rains the pan can fill up and attracts thousands of flamingos, usually the best time to view the flamingos is Jan/Feb, but of course this depends on the rains and water level so is never guaranteed.
Accessed by four entry points, the roads are surfaced with gravel. The park is fenced with numerous waterholes which the animals frequent, especially during the drier months.
