Safari with Sciatica. Safari with the best company and the best people.

October 2019 | Matt Caldwell

I had a bad back injury prior to arrival and whether we could come was touch and go for a while. Gamewatchers primed all the camps so they knew I needed more help than what ever normal might be and they were all ready for me and were all wonderful. Nothing is ever too much trouble even when fit and healthy so having this attitude when pain hits is so superb and it enabled us to relax and really enjoy what was a very eventful safari, one of the best we have ever had.

We started off with a quick 2 nights at Lion Camp with William and Albert by our sides. The wildlife seemed to know we had returned as was waiting for us right from when we landed on the air strip. Cubs, fights, hunts, kills and the beauty of huge skies at sunset and all that before we slept on day 1.

That set the tone for the rest of the trip which was then 3 nights at Mara Camp with Geff and Tim and of course the wonderful Jimmy back in camp followed by 3 nights at Rhino camp with Hezbon who we have known since he was a waiter (now he is head guide) and the manager, David….. and that smile. What an absolute gentleman and all round wonderful person (they all are but David is such a great friend now).

After that we headed off to Samburu where Porini do not have a camp but they had worked with us to book Saruni which was the perfect end to our trip.

Thank you to each and every person, seen and unseen, who made this trip not only possible but so wonderful despite the constant pain.

Next year we shall do a fit and healthy safari 🙂
