Victoria Falls & Livingstone

Victoria Falls is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. While it is neither the highest nor the widest waterfall in the world, it is claimed to be the largest. This claim is based on a width of 1,708 metres (5,600 ft) and height of 108 metres (360 ft), forming the largest sheet of falling water in the world.

Victoria Falls town (Zimbabwe) lies on the southern bank of the Zambezi River at the eastern end of the Victoria Falls. It is a lovely tourist town which is easy to explore on foot and which offers a wide range of activities.

Livingstone (on the Zambian side) is a historic colonial town most famous for its proximity to the Victoria Falls. The town has experienced a revival in the last decade with the old colonial style buildings which line the shaded main avenue, being renovated and now housing shops, cafes and a variety of local businesses.

Gorges and Little Gorges Tented Lodge

Little Gorges is perched on the edge of the Batoka Gorge next to main Gorges. This tented extension of Gorges overlooks the dramatic junction of the Dibu Dibu River and the  Zambezi, where black eagles and lanner falcons nest in the sheer cliff faces. Construction of the luxury tents in this rugged, rocky and broken terrain necessitated careful planning and feats of engineering and is a wonderful alternative to the main Gorges chalets while still providing all the same comforts.

Zambezi Sands provides a wealth of opportunities for drives and walks with experienced guides, while the Zambezi River itself invites exploration by inflatable canoe or motorised launch.  However, relaxing in your private splash pool on your deck overlooking the Zambezi is also just as enjoyable. Elephants can be found loitering on the mainland or in the river, while hippos, waterbucks and bushbucks frequent the reed banks and islands.  Lions can be heard calling at night and the birdlife is prolific – African finfoot, African skimmer, pratincoles and Pel’s fishing owl all can be found here.
