In the heart of Maasai country and a remote corner of the Tarangire, in total seclusion amongst giant acacia trees and looking out beyond the flat savannah, Sanctuary Swala offers a very exclusive safari experience.

The picturesque landscape is filled with ancient baobab trees, ambling elephants and birds in flight. Built to the highest eco-friendly standards, this camp has a particularly low-carbon footprint.

Accommodation

Sanctuary Swala is located in a secluded part of Tarangire National Park and has twelve luxurious canvas pavilions, all shaded by acacia trees and all with views over the waterhole and plains in front of camp.

Each of the twelve canvas pavilions is shaded by tall acacia trees and all are within sight of the well frequented water hole. They are unashamedly luxurious and exquisitely furnished but still close enough to nature to permit an exciting night under canvas. The tents feature a spacious open plan arrangement with comfortable king or twin beds, campaign chairs and plush sofas and boasts an en-suite bathroom with both indoor and outdoor shower for that extra bit of luxury. Sip cocktails or enjoy scrumptious dinners on your own private veranda and watch the waterhole which regularly draws lions, leopards and resident bull elephants while your own personal attendant caters for your every need. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in guests’ tents.

The main area is situated right under a big baobab tree, a common sight in these parts of Tanzania. The dining area, lounge, deck and small library all feature a chic, contemporary African design with a traditional thatched roof. This main area is lifted on stilts allowing a wide view of the grasslands of the Tarangire right in front of the camp.

Dining

All meals served at Sanctuary Swala are enjoyed on the main dining deck which is lifted on stilts around an enormous and ancient baobab tree. A full English and continental breakfast is served before your morning game viewing activity. Lunch can be enjoyed back in camp where the menu might include your favourite pizza made in the special pizza oven; or alternatively a picnic basket can be arranged should you wish to stay longer in the park. There are many favourite spots to go to for a quiet lunch in the bush or for special sundowners – toasting to the end of yet another beautiful day in Africa.

As evening sets in, enjoy drinks and canapés around the camp fire; followed by a three course plated dinner as you discuss the great game viewing and events of the day.

Sanctuary Swala prides itself in the personalised service that they offer. Please let us know if you have any special requests or dietary requirements and these can be passed to the Chef before your arrival. If you are celebrating a special occasion they can arrange a private dinner under the stars on your tent deck.

Activities

Sanctuary Swala Camp offers a broad variety of activities include morning and evening game drives, walking and night game drives, sundowners, bush dinners and picnics, and an opportunity to visit Sanctuary Retreats Philanthropy Projects including the Mwika beekeeping project.
