A 7 day safari bringing excellent value-for-money, combining two of Kenya’s most renowned wildlife locations. Guests have the rare opportunity to see rhino – including the World’s last two remaining Northern White Rhino – and can get off the beaten track to observe lions, leopards, cheetahs and much more where the animals are completely wild and free in their natural habitat.

Starting in Nairobi, you will begin your adventure with a flight to the world-renowned Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a vast area of landscape that has been set aside to protect the natural habitat for Kenya’s wildlife.

Spend 3 nights at Porini Rhino Camp taking daily day and night 4×4 game-drives (with expert driver-guide) in search of the Big Five. This is East Africa’s largest rhino sanctuary, so guests are guaranteed sightings of these majestic beasts. Lions and leopards also reside here.

Guests can also opt to visit the Chimpanzee Sanctuary, Baraka the Black Rhino and the Endangered Species Boma which houses the planet’s last two remaining Northern White Rhino.

Black Rhino in Ol Pejeta Conservancy

On Day 4 you will fly to the Maasai Mara for a further 3 nights at Porini Mara Camp which has just 6 guest tents sited within the exclusive 18,700 acre Ol Kinyei Conservancy.

From each camp, guests take day and night game drives within the conservancies which are teeming with wildlife. Drives are by custom-built, open-sided 4×4 safari vehicles (not tourist vans) with a driver-guide and a spotter. Porini guests also enjoy bush picnics and romantic sundowners and can join Maasai warriors for guided walks to learn more about Kenya’s fascinating flora and fauna.

The conservancies are formed of pristine wilderness with open savannah plains, riverine forest, springs, streams and rivers, rolling hills and spectacular views.

Porini Safari Camps are Fully Inclusive of:

  • Breakfast, lunch, dinner and selected drinks (beer, house wine, gin & tonics, mineral water, sodas)
  • Bush Breakfasts
  • Game drives in custom-built 4×4 open-sided safari vehicles
  • Morning and evening / night shared game drives (private vehicles available at a supplement)
  • Expert Maasai driver-guides
  • Escorted walks with Maasai guides
  • Sundowner drinks to watch the sunset from scenic viewing points

Porini guest tents are spacious and each has solar electric lights and an en-suite bathroom with flush toilet and safari shower. The camp Chefs prepare good quality meals – hot dishes, fresh salads and home baked bread.

Note: This tour includes flights between Nairobi and safari areas (and back) to avoid wasting hours travelling by road and to get you straight to the wildlife. Departures are flexible (any day of the week) but exclude the rainy season from mid Apr to end of May.

We can arrange Nairobi transfers as well an overnight stay in Nairobi (at a supplement) at the start or end of your safari depending on your international flight times.

Activities in Ol Pejeta

Ol Pejeta Endangered Species Boma

Endangered Species BomaThe Endangered Species Boma is a must-see for any trip to Ol Pejeta. Here visitors can meet and learn about the Northern White Rhinos which are critically endangered with only two left in the world. All of them are here and visitors can have the unique experience of seeing these majestic creatures up close. The boma also has six southern white rhinos, two black rhinos and numerous Grevy’s zebras and Jackson’s hartebeest. Tour starts at 2.45 pm. Approximately 2 hours.

US $60 per person. Funds raised go towards the care of the rhinos.

Meet Baraka the Black Rhino

BarakaBaraka was one of the first rhinos born on the Ol Pejeta Conservancy. After losing an eye to an infection following a fight he unfortunately developed a cataract in the other eye and subsequently became completely blind. With a low chance of survival on his own, Baraka was moved from the wild to a 100 acre enclosure in order to ensure his safety.

Baraka is now an ambassador for his species – and a popular attraction at Ol Pejeta. There is a feeding platform from which visitors can get up close to view and feed him, an experience not to be missed. Baraka receives visitors daily from 9.30am to 6.00pm, with feeding times three times per day.

The cost of the visit to Baraka and the Information Center is already included within the Conservancy Fee.

The Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary

Chimpanzee SanctuaryFormed in 1993 as a joint alliance between The Jane Goodall Institute and Kenyan Wildlife Services this sanctuary was established as a refuge for orphaned and confiscated chimpanzees and is the only place in Kenya where non-indigenous chimpanzees can be seen.

The Sanctuary provides a permanent refuge in as natural environment as possible – the 40 or so chimpanzees are protected on an island and access to see them is by boat.

NB  Porini Rhino Camp guests gain priority access to the Sanctuary from 9am (before guests of other camps arrive from 10am).

The cost of a visit to the Chimpanzee Sanctuary is already included within the Conservancy fee.

Lion Tracking

Lion TrackingTake this unique opportunity to head out on Ol Pejeta Conservancy to track the lion population. It is a great way to support the conservation project and to learn more about these fascinating animals. All of the information gathered is passed on to the Ol Pejeta Ecological Monitoring Department. Guests remain in the vehicle at all times. Tracking excursions depart daily between 06:30h – 09:30h and 15:30h – 18:30h.

Price: US $70 per person . Funds raised support the project.

Morani Information Center

morani-information-center2The Morani Information Center offers visitors the opportunity to learn about the different wildlife species that live on Ol Pejeta; from anatomy to behaviour to habitat. It also offers an insight into how Ol Pejeta Conservancy works on a daily basis to safeguard wildlife and preserve wilderness.

There is also a converted rhino transportation crate to explore!

The Morani Center is open from 9 to 5 every day and is free of charge.
