With an attractive setting surrounded on three sides by the Mara River and on the edge of one of the “New Wonders of the World” – the Masai Mara – the Fairmont Mara Safari Club provides a perfect base for visiting this rich wildlife reserve.

The Fairmont Mara Safari Club re-opened in 2009 following an extensive renovation program and offers a superb standard of accommodation in the Maasai Mara which is home to an astounding array of animals including zebras, cheetahs, wildebeests, gazelles and of course the “Big Five”.

With four poster beds and a veranda overlooking the hippo and crocodile-filled river, each of the 50 tents at Mara Safari Club is superbly furnished with its own private bathroom including a number of “outdoor showers” in selected tents. The larger-sized accommodations also feature expanded decks which allow for private dining.

Each guest tent has one or two four-poster beds, an ensuite shower, hot water, power and a deck with views of the Mara River. Other amenities include: water flasks with glasses, insecticide, 220v electrical sockets, electric lighting, dressing table, hand-woven rugs, poster-bed drapes, windows with mosquito gauze and flaps, torch, umbrella. Adaptors, hairdryers and a complimentary shoeshine service are on request.

Riverside Double Double Tents have two double beds and are suitable for families or parties of 4.

Room Service offers morning tea, coffee or hot chocolate and wake-up calls.

The main lodge of Mara Safari Club is at the centre of camp and is cantilevered over the river. It hosts an indoor dining room, bar and library.

The dining room is hewn out of wood beams and glass, allowing natural light to filter in to the high-ceilinged, spacious room. Evenings are cosy in the softly lit area. The menu is a cosmopolitan combination of European, African and Asian dishes, made from the abundance of fresh Kenyan produce. Both breakfast and lunch are served buffet-style, while dinner is Table D'Hôte, with a choice of main course. Outdoor dining is enhanced with the creation of a boma, a structure influenced by traditional homesteads, where guests can enjoy a cultural dinner reflecting not only African cuisine but also rich musical accompaniment.

The lounge is sectioned off to create 'private' seating areas and the decor has a definite African flavour, with woven wall hangings, and Maasai artefacts. This area is the venue for the Maasai Dancers, slide shows and lectures. Liqueurs, beers, soft drinks, cocktails, wines, spirits, tea and coffee are served here.

A spacious outside deck overhangs the river and leads to a heated pool, complete with bar and private massage tents.

The main lodge also offers internet access to keep the relatives up to date with safari adventures.

Guests can choose from a wide range of activities at Mara Safari Club, including game drives and balloon safaris over the Mara plains capped with a champagne breakfast on the savannah or a stroll in the footprints of the hippo-trodden path escorted by a Maasai Moran.

Game drives, guided by our experienced 'driver-naturalists', are by four-wheel-drive Land Cruiser. The refreshing pool, al fresco buffet lunches and nightly activities of Maasai dancing, slide shows and talks on the Mara's ecosystem and Maasai culture, all add up to create a truly unique experience.

Activities at Mara Safari Club include:

  • Short Game Drives
  • Full Day Game Drives
  • Walking Safaris (2-hour Excursion)
  • Bird Walks
  • Balloon Safaris
  • Fishing Safari (Half-Day Excursion)
