Mara Plains Camp

Mara Plains Camp is located within a private and secure forty five thousand acre piece of land on the route of Kenya's annual wildebeest migration. This area is a vital dry season resource area for a diversity of wildlife and as such promises great game viewing throughout the year. Tucked away in a grove of natural forest, the camp is set on the bends of the Ntiakitiak River that cuts through the Olare Orok Conservancy. This is an exclusive Maasai owned conservation area on the northern boundary of the Maasai Mara National Reserve.

The camp's host is Sean Hartley, an experience Kenyan experienced guide and established photographer. This digital enthusiast is always at hand to help you with tips to wildlife photography where ever he can.

Accommodation

The camp features an eco-friendly in design, management style and amenities. Accommodation is provided in seven double sharing or single use tents all on raised platforms snuggly set in the trees along the banks of the Ntiakitiak River. Each tent has its own private views over the river and the surrounding wildlife plains. All have lockable trunks, en-suite bathrooms with hot showers and flush toilets. Lighting is on a 24 hour electricity supply supported by the camp's generator.

Meals are prepared by professional with special dietary requirements catered for with prior arrangements. House wines, beers and soft drinks are on the house. The camp also has a large dining tent as well as a lounge tent where guests can relax and share their safari experiences.

Activities

Activities around the camp include day and night game drives in 4x4 vehicles, which are equipped to accommodate four to five keen photographers. Game and bird walks with the escort of armed and expert guides, Bush meals and Sundowners, Cultural Bush walks. At a little supplementary cost you can experience an early morning balloon safari (a truly breath-taking experience), or take a short excursion flight to the Lake Victoria for a day fishing trip.

A gallery tent with digital still photography, video footage editing facilities and a large HD compatible preview screen which enables guests to show off their experiences and trophies of the day.

The camp is open all year round and is accessible by daily scheduled flights from Nairobi's Wilson airport to the Ol Kiombo airstrip approximately 30 minutes drive from the camp. Private air charters can land on the Conservancy's private airstrip approximately 15 minutes drive from camp.
