Entim Mara Camp is set within Kenya’s legendary Maasai Mara Game Reserve, surrounded by some of the world’s best game-viewing areas. It has a great location overlooking the Mara River and it is just a short drive away from where the Talek and Mara rivers converge and where the seasonal wildebeest river crossings are spectacular.
Entim - meaning “forest” in the Maasai language - is discreetly tucked away in the riverine woodlands. From the shaded seclusion of this attractively-designed camp, guests can relax and admire unforgettable views over the Mara River and across expansive plains, with the distant backdrops of undulating hills. From the veranda of each tent it is even possible to witness the breathtaking sight of thousands of wildebeest crossing the river during their annual migration through this vast wilderness area.
Entim Mara Camp has been designed to give guests the feel that it is part of the landscape. The experience at Entim is not your average hotel or lodge experience: it's about being right in the hub of one of the most famous wildlife reserves in the world and part of a quintessential Kenya safari experience.
As a small eco-friendly camp , Entim has just ten well-equipped guest tents – each tastefully but differently furnished with a decor that aims to complement the surrounding environment. Each tent has been carefully placed to make the most of the stunning views from the veranda. All tents are en-suite with flush-toilets and hot showers.
The camp has public areas to include a cosy lounge with a small library and a separate bar and dining area which is open-fronted and gives a wonderful view of the wildlife moving to and from the river to drink and forage for food.
The camp offers delicious home-cooked meals. Bread, cakes and pastries are all baked in camp, while fresh produce is flown in regularly. The chefs aim to produce healthy, balanced and enticing menus, and are happy to cater to your individual requirements. The camp serves a selection of house wines from the famous wineries of South Africa.
Guests can dine privately at their own veranda with the personal service of the helpful, well-trained staff.
Picnic lunches can be taken on longer game drives and enjoyed al fresco, while out exploring this vast and diverse area. Early evenings can be enjoyed over sundowner drinks in discreetly selected spots away from camp; or after a game drive and hot shower, around the campfire.
Exciting game drives explore the famous Maasai Mara which is home to some of the most abundant wildlife populations in the world. Sightings of the “big 5” on game drives are almost guaranteed, while from camp the horizons are always busy with plains game. There are several prides of lion in the area, and it is even possible to see leopards who have established their territories around the camp.
The camp employs local Maasai driver-guides, trained to a high standard. They have grown up in the area and have an instinctive talent for spotting game and natural ability to read animal spoor, as well as signs of an impending natural event, be it a river crossing or a predator kill.
Your day will be planned by your driver-guide, who is in the best position to know where the animals are that day, including where the last crossings were made, whether there are new resident lions in the area or nomad lions passing through.
The guides will be also be happy to share their cultural background with you, and may even take you outside the reserve to visit their Maasai homesteads, depending on your day's game viewing schedule. Those guests who are interested in cultural visits should ideally book extra time at Entim to fully enjoy this unique opportunity.
