Bateleur Camp is situated at the edge of the Maasai Mara,
just below the location where the most famous scene of the famous film
Out of Africa
was made. It is a romantic and totally private camp that reflects the
ambience of Kenyan safaris of the 1920’s and 30’s.
The main guest area, which is shaded by a dense forest
canopy, has a reception area and a comfortable lounge with a fireplace.
While you are relaxing inside the camp, you can take in the endless,
game-filled plains with the dramatic Oloololo Escarpment as a backdrop,
where thousands of Maasai live and herd their livestock in harmony with
Africa’s wild animals.
ACCOMMODATION
There are nine exclusive tented suites in each lavishly
decorated with polished wooden floors, fine antiques, leather- buttoned
Chesterfield sofas, needlepoint rugs, polished compasses and cabin
trunks with their original passage labels, as well as a wide selection
of library books. The interiors remind you of the colonial times. To top
it up, you are provided with your own personal butler to ensure you live
in style and comfort.
The dining area and verandah have views of the endless
game-filled plains of the Mara. Pan-African cuisine is served with
flair. After dinner, enjoy a glass of port in front of the fire, or you
can choose to dine in the bush at both dinner and breakfast. Dinners are
served in a clearing in the bush under a star-studded sky. The
incredible effort, the surprise, the spectacular settings, visual impact
and fairytale-like atmosphere of dining under the stars are an
unforgettable African bush experience.
ACTIVITIES
You can enjoy a refreshing swim in the tree shaded lap
pool, go on a game drive in search of Lion, Elephant of the other big
five in open 4x4 safari vehicles, attend lectures on the local Maasai
culture, hike on guided nature walks with a Maasai naturalist, or relax
to a private massage in the comfort of your own room. At a extra cost
enjoy a once in a lifetime experience hot air balloon ride, which gives
you a unique perspective of the Mara grasslands and its exceptional
wildlife.
Bateleur camp is easily accessible from Nairobi’s Wilson
Airport to the local airstrip, a 25-minute road transfer to camp.
