Comprised mainly of ancient rainforest, Kibale National Park is rich with diverse wildlife and is particularly renowned for its primates.

It has one of the greatest numbers of primate species in Africa – a total of 13 species including endangered chimpanzees. With over 1,450 chimpanzees this is the largest population in Uganda, and visitors have a very high chance of seeing them in the wild.

Monkeys that can be found in the park include the rare red colobus, black and white colobus, l’hoests monkey, blue monkey, red-tailed monkey, grey-cheeked mangabay, bush babies, pottos and olive baboons.

Kibale has an impressive 325 recorded species of bird including the rare forest and red-winged francolins, green-breasted and African pittas among others.

Forest elephant, bush pigs and buffalo are among the larger mammals that reside in the forest.
