Amidst this magnificent setting is Jongomero Camp, a luxury safari camp in Africa set under shady acacia trees on the banks of the Jongomero Sand River in the remote south-western sector of Ruaha.

Accommodation

Accommodation at Jongomero Camp, Ruaha comprises eight large and well-appointed tented suites, under enormous thatched roofs that also encompass a spacious private veranda. The dining and living areas are both original and very comfortable offering a great vantage to take in the sights and sounds of the African bush that surrounds the Camp, as does the natural rock pool for those hot days.

Guest tents are situated on a raised platform under a makuti thatch roof and boast

8 Ft wide Dhow wood Emperor beds with ambient 240v, lighting. Each tent has en-suite bathrooms with a double vanity and hot and cold running water (solar heated with backup immersion heater) and spacious front veranda ensuring maximum privacy with views.

The public area is beautifully located in the deep shade of an ancient African Ebony tree with uninterrupted views of the Jongomero River bed. Dining is an adventure: a combination of table d’hote, elegant buffets, al fresco dinners under the stars, campfire cooking and classic safari picnics. International cuisine with a truly East African flavour. The Camp also has a filtered swimming pool overlooking the seasonal Jongomero River. The ideal escape from the hot days.

With over 530 species of bird, a huge population of buffalo, elephant and lion, plus a unique combination of both Lesser and Greater Kudu, Roan Antelope and African Wild Dog, Ruaha offers as definitive a cross-section of wildlife as any park on the continent.

Game drives in open 4-wheel drive vehicles. All day drives with bush picnics.Excellent birding. The Camp is accessible by scheduled flights from Dar es Salaam as well as Arusha. The airstrip is just 10min from the camp.

Seasons In Ruaha

June to October: Dry and warm days with temperatures cooling down considerably at night. Vegetation becomes sparser and animals are drawn to dwindling water sources.

November – mid March: Hotter and greener. Nights still cool. This is the season for bird and plant lovers and is the main reproductive time of year so a good time for seeing young. There’s a chance of rain, flowers are in abundance and deciduous.
