Uganda Safaris

Uganda has a varied landscape including stunning mountainous areas covered in thick ancient rainforest. This unique eco-system is home to thousands of species of flora and fauna, with many rare and endangered specimens. Uganda is most famous for being one of the last refuges for endangered mountain gorillas.

We offer tours to Uganda to view mountain gorillas in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. These can be booked as a 3 night or 4 night option staying at Volcanoes Bwindi Lodge – a high quality property in an attractive location overlooking the Forest.

As well as gorilla treks, activities in the area include guided walks in the rainforest in search of chimpanzees, various species of monkey, several endemic bird species and rare butterflies and plants; cultural excursions to discover the hunter-gatherer traditions of the native Batwa Pygmy tribe and walks to the local village to learn about community projects.

Itinerary

Gorillas In Bwindi Safari, Uganda (3 Days / 2 Nights with Optional Extra Day)

Day 1

Arrive at Entebbe airport and transfer to the 08:30 am or 12:30 pm flight to Kihihi. Once there you will be welcomed by your expert guide who will provide knowledge and assistance throughout your journey. Transfer to Buhoma and to Volcanoes Bwindi Lodge. Rest and before dinner explore the lodge grounds with its clear mountain stream or visit the local village. Overnight at Volcanoes Bwindi Lodge (L, D)

Day 2

After enjoying an early breakfast, you set off gorilla tracking. Trekking through the steep, densely forested hills and then finally coming across the gorillas camouflaged in the vegetation is an inspiring and privileged moment. Tracking in the Bwindi forest requires stamina and can often take most of the day. Alternatively there are other activities and excursions on offer in and around the national park:

  • Take a guided walk in the rainforest, home to several endemic bird species, clouds of butterflies and rare plant life. This walk offers excellent photographic opportunities and the knowledgeable guide will provide a great insight into this globally important habitat.
  • Walk through the local village, and learn about community projects
  • Discover the traditions of the Batwa Pygmies, and learn about the native tribal inhabitants of the forest. The indigenous people of Bwindi forest, though no longer resident in the forest, still practice many of their traditional hunter-gatherer skills.

Overnight at Volcanoes Bwindi Lodge (B, L, D)

Day 3 (optional extra day)

Either go gorilla tracking again - additional gorilla permits required for this day and subject to availability - or opt for one of the other gentler but equally rewarding alternatives available (see above options). All meals and overnight at Volcanoes Bwindi Lodge (B, L, D)

Day 3 (or 4 if optional extra day taken)

Breakfast at the lodge. Depart on the 10:55 am or 14:05 pm flight to Entebbe and connect to your onward flight. (B)
