Located about two and a half hours’ drive north-east of Kigali, Akagera Game Lodge is within the boundaries of Akagera National Park in Rwanda’s Eastern Province. The lodge has an attractive setting on a ridge with views over Lake Ihema. The surrounding area has a wealth of Big Game and other wildlife on the open savannah and in the protected woodland, lakes, swamps and marshland.

The lodge has an attractive swimming pool - ideal for cooling down in the African sunshine after a morning’s game drive on the game-filled plains. The Shoebill Restaurant has a good buffet service with international cuisine using fresh local ingredients and the Elephant Bar & Lounge invites guests to relax and enjoy a drink on its picturesque terrace with views out over the Lake.

With its comfortable accommodation and laid-back ambiance, Akagera Game Lodge provides everything that you need for a pleasant stay in this area.

Accommodation:

Akagera Game Lodge has double and single rooms, Executive Suites and (for larger groups) charming individual cottages with patios looking out over Lake Ihema. All rooms are decorated in a pan-African theme and feature an en suite bathroom and a satellite television. Room service is available.

Facilities: 

The Shoebill Restaurant at Akagera Game Lodge serves a buffet breakfast and lunch and dinner is buffet or a la carte. The Chef prepares an assortment of tasty international-style dishes as well as regional specialities.

The adjoining Elephant Bar & Lounge serves beverages and snacks and provides an ideal retreat at which to unwind with a beer or cocktail after a long day’s safari. From here you can step out onto the terrace which has a lovely view across the swimming pool and beyond to Lake Ihema.

There is a pool-side snack bar and a towel service and on-site tennis court.

Activities: 

The Safari Desk can organise game drives and guided walks within the Akagera National Park as well as fishing and bird-watching trips.

 Itinerary

3 Day Akagera Safari

Day 1    

Morning pick up from Kigali (airport or hotel) and transfer by road (approx. 3 hours) to Akagera Game Lodge set within the Akagera National Park. After lunch, set out to explore the Park. These highlands afford a breathtaking view across the undulating hills and rolling grassland to the extensive series of lakes linked by papyrus swamps. The diverse habitats of the area are home to over 500 species of birds as well as the shy oribi and the elusive topi. Dinner and overnight at Akagera Game Lodge (LD).

Day 2    

A day of game drives within the National Park in search of the abundant wildlife including elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and waterbuck. Picnic lunch (or lunch at lodge). Take a scenic boat excursion on Lake Ihema. Dinner and overnight at lodge (BLD).

Day 3    

After breakfast transfer back to Kigali and drop-off at Kigali (airport or hotel) (B).
